"Who among us hasn’t basked for an hour or two in the self-congratulatory stupor of the like-minded? In contrast, thoughtfulness can be a lonely choice, especially when accompanied by courage." - Garret Keizer
I admit months ago I was ignoring the trail closed sign and riding over dirt, mud and a flimsy board where that nice bridge is now at. Its great to have it now officially open.

I've seen many VC tech cycles play out. I've been at the periphery in my boring role of making real things for real people as I have been pitched technology solutions by them. In the end their LinkedIn history fills dozens of jobs nobody understands and they disappear into the tech either.

Of course they usually ride so fast that it’s not even a consideration on most flats and hills.

Timothy Snyder recently pointed out just why "Stalin did this with border zones and deportations in the 1930s that preceded the Great Terror. Hitler did it with immigration raids in 1938 that targeted undocumented Jews and forced them across the border." open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p...

There's just so much wrong with all of this. I've been around many UCI pros in Spain during Winter rides (I get some time in during business travel) and give them massive room and respect as do the Spanish cyclists I see. I'd never want to be "that guy" that took out a Pro. Bon Dia!

They haven't simply lost the narrative. It up and ran away from them never to be seen again.

Just listened to Carney’s Davos speech. The analogy of Czech shopkeepers putting signs in their windows to go along and appease was a great analogy. I’d say the corporations want Walz to hang a sign just as they have.

Thinking of Jeffery Pretti and his very human response. Should we all be able to have such human responses.

What counts even more than moral convictions, according to philosopher Jonathan Glover, are "human responses," without which "morality is useless or worse." Garret Keizer - Help

Gen 3 Radpower Radwagon.- Modified a bit. $1,500 years ago. Don’t worry too much about leaving it locked up for a few hours if needed. If I had a R&M or something else might not want to leave it long.

I have a mirror on my cargo bike. When I ride it often I find myself looking for the mirror on my other bikes. 🤪

If Congress can't have the talk with Grandpa can they at least take away his keys? Maybe shut the office door, put him in front of some fake cameras and let him play dictator while the rest of us get back to work.

What a nightmare. Just got back from a grocery run on the e-cargo. I swear I saw around 6 of them in my short 2 mile ride home. All riders teens and all no helmet. Emotions of Joy and Terror all mixed together.

My vague memory from B school management classes is the British army long ago figured that around 10 give or take was an ideal number for a small unit. With more you start to get division and therefore problems.

On the MTB a few weeks ago I was nearing the end of a climb when a guy with no warning passed at high speed on my right then immediately cut in front of me and onto a trail to the left nearly taking me out. Saw him at the top and told him I guess trail etiquette didn’t come with his F’n motor.

How much more in your face can it be?

"Why are you asking me for my paperwork?"
"Because of your accent."
"You have an accent too."
"Where were you born sir?"
"Where were you born at?"
"Put your hands behind your back."

I have seen a slow improvement. Most of it East of Chicago. It's problem is a sorry one dating to the Riverside Raceway. The Ave was packed with motels and restaurants that catered to the Race crowd and was basically an okay place. Once the track was gone it hit the skids.
