Three main categories for superb owl ads this year - movies/tv, pharmaceuticals, and AI….not sure what all of that means exactly. Definitely an indicator of the times and all. Definitely different from all the more nostalgic and iconic ads of the past…Women gladiators anyone? Doritos anyone?

Hi. Big fans. Loving the game. Here to cheer.

But um…ya, why is a *Peregrine Falcon* being shown flying out of the tv score board? That’s one of the last “sea hawk” possible raptors out there.

Help a bird nerd out here. At least put an Osprey or an eagle (bald or golden!) or something else…

Since Life has been *waves hands at everything* I'm resharing my Short-eared Owl #SuperbOwl #BirdGlamour!

#BirdGlamour celebrates #SuperbOwl by revisiting my first Glam in 2017, the Short-eared Owl! Short-eared Owls are found in the grasslands of all continents except Australian & Antarctica. They are also far travelers: there are accounts of Short-eared Owls landing on ships 100s of miles from land!🧪🐡🐦

This bird couple sure has a lot of thoughts and commentary about the Budweiser commercial….ill leave it at that because OMG!!!! 🤦‍♀️🦅🐴🏈

Overheard: “where are the commercial referees…or at least just ask us (bird experts)! We’re right here!”

Bird references continue in Super Bowl ads!

Meta related ad had someone asking “do vultures eat people?”

Meta didn’t answer (in ad at least) but if you wanna chat vultures or sacred Tibetan vulture funeral rituals or “sky burial”….I and other bird folk are happy to.

Vultures are amazing!

We all know it’s Superb Owl Sunday - even ads are giving shout outs.

But ironic that AI related commercial didn’t get it quite right. It should specify owls and not just birding. 😉🦉

(Also there was no birding festival in Yosemite in 2008 either so 🤔…we’ll still take it ad wise ofc)

I try to channel my inner Sheryl Yoast (Remember the Titans) regularly…but it definitely is strongest on Superb Owl Sunday 🦉🏈

Okay, so one of the sports dudes playing tomorrow uses the Merlin app to ID the birds in his yard, so I would like him to win because this is so cute. Also, his team is a bird. www.youtube.com/shorts/7NoPa...

I've been thinking about this again this week. We all deserve a lot of grace right now. For ourselves and for each other.
A colleague just shared, in response to the complaint that it's incredibly difficult to get work done under conditions of such high uncertainty, that navigating uncertainty IS work. Appreciating that.

This isn't funny or cute. It's not a matter of sense of humor or not. I & so many others are constantly trying to raise awareness of impact of outdoor cats. Outdoor cats kill ~2.4 billion (yes w a B!) each *year* in US *alone*! This card makes light of a death (bird victim) & sig conservation issue.

2026 first bird of the year is Dark-eyed Junco for me and G! 🪶

While there are no wrong or bad first birds, I can’t deny hoping that this cutie and sweet winter buddy are a good sign, or at least theme, for the year! 🤞🥰

Season's Grebe-ings from Maryland Bird Conservation Partnership! Here’s to a wonderful holiday season filled with the joy of #birds, laughter of friends, and magic of nature.

We couldn’t resist the pun - especially since the Pied-billed Grebe is Maryland’s only nesting grebe species!

Highly recommended read!

I’m biased since Roxie has always been a hero of mine. But I’ve got to say this book makes you a bigger Roxie fan no matter what you know of her. And whether you’re a #bird lover or not too. She was such an incredible person that overcame so much and accomplished so much.

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

Oh hey there Ross! You’re looking extra cute today. No need to be shy and try to hide behind some veg. Congrats on claiming bronze for your species as our third ever county record! It means a lot that you stopped at a farm pond right down the road, and even more that G & I found you.
