John Waters likes to complain that today’s activists don’t have a fashion of their own. Transit Riders Union (@seattletru.bsky.social) and supporters of Katie Wilson’s campaign for Seattle mayor (@wilsonforseattle.bsky.social) are challenging that.

“The body positivity movement… got co-opted by the wellness movement, and so people stopped using language like, ‘Oh, I’m doing this to be thin.’ And instead changed their language to: ‘I’m doing this to be healthy.’ But healthy was always synonymous with thinness…” — Jessica Grose via @nytimes.com

No shade on this episode, but: Nobody should accuse this Supreme Court—and especially its conservative majority!—as consisting of “Radical Feminists”, independent of how “Trans Exclusionary” they may be. We too often use the term “TERF” when “transphobic” or just simply “bigot” are more appropriate.
This month's bonus episode is about how the anti-trans panic turned a series of unhinged tweets into a whole Supreme Court case.

We won’t be surprised by this week’s news, as it was a top campaign promise. It’s nevertheless dispiriting.

What I responded to eight years ago pales next to what we’re seeing today—what I ever even imagined!—though it’s the culmination of increasingly protectionist rhetoric over the last decades.
