Like health care and groceries, working families can’t afford Chuck Schumer’s bullshit at this moment in time.

I hate poll-based arguments like this because shutdowns flat-out suck for anyone who needs federal services (i.e. all of us), and especially for the working poor. The polls were favorable, but even setting the political math aside, any deal that continues to fuck over workers isn’t worth making.
"Democrats could have held the line on the shutdown, and spent weeks watching Trump’s approval ratings fall," writes @jonathanbchait.bsky.social
Instead, he argues, they're making a mistake by giving in:

The shutdown was hurting Trump. Ending it helps him.

Over the past few months I’ve moved from “Schumer should retire at the end of his term” to “Schumer should step down from leadership at the end of this Congress” to “Schumer should step down from leadership immediately” to “Schumer should resign at the end of this Congress” to “Jesus fuck, man.”
Schumer on the Democratic response to Trump's shakedown of Harvard: "We sent him a very strong letter just the other day asking eight very strong questions."

I’m just saying, has anyone checked to make sure Tim Kaine didn’t place a prop bet on this?

Many fools have bought magic beans, but it takes a special sort of chump to buy them on layaway like this.

Yes, Mr. President: You’re right. We do have “the worst health care” of any major country.

Despite spending twice as much per capita, we are the only major country not to guarantee health care to all as a human right.

The solution: Medicare for All.

The thing is, no, we’re not. I’d like it if we could be “laser-focused on affordability,” but we’re not taking our eyes off of DHS terrorizing our people, and Trump’s rampant corruption, and the administration’s murderous foreign and military policy, etc. It all keeps us busy, cause it all matters.
Here’s what I shared on Fox News today:

I believe in winning elections through addition, not subtraction.

Democrats are laser-focused on affordability and the issues keeping Americans up at night, and our candidates are resonating across the country.

The Heritage Foundation’s staff revolt over its leadership’s coddling of Nazis was fun to watch this week, but remember that this travesty didn’t threaten their team unity. Nobody said this was their dealbreaker. This was fine. This was normal. This was just Heritage doing its thing.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

Okay, so here’s my problem: I can’t justify renewing my WaPo subscription given what Bezos has done to it. I have subscriptions to my two local/regional papers (Hearst CT and the Courant). I need an option with national/intl coverage and a not-shitty editorial page. Who’s still in the running?

Not hanging on for the sake of power at the expense of progress, or waiting until just before a filing deadline to ensure an annointed successor, but accepting that this chapter of a storied career has reached a natural conclusion, and entering the next one with grace and dignity.

This is the way.

I don’t think I’ll be supporting candidates who won’t clearly call for abolishing ICE in 2026. That’s looking like it might be my litmus test.

It’s called “public policy,” which leads to bills called “public acts.” If you had a plan, you wouldn’t keep it private.
Mike Johnson talks about the Republican "healthcare plan" like it's highly classified information: "We're not gonna be on a conference call explaining all our plans and strategies for healthcare reform, because they're leaked in real time."

He STILL hasn’t sworn in Grijalva!
If I were in Congress, I’d introduce a censure resolution against Johnson for failing to swear in a duly-elected representative. Party shouldn’t matter on this one—it’s Johnson’s most basic duty to let the people’s representatives into the People’s House.
Mike Johnson swore in newly elected Republicans earlier this year when the House wasn’t fully in session.

But now he’s refusing to do the same for Democratic representative-elect Adelita Grijalva.
