Thousands of people in Smale Park Cincinnati, gathered to peacefully protest the current administration. There were songs and chants and costumes and signs in the shade of the Roebling Bridge. I did a watercolor sketch to show I was there. I tried to capture some of my favorite signs and costumes, such as: Dinos Against Donny Resist You Sucked In Home Alone 2 IKEA Has Better Cabinets If Not Fascism, Why Fascism Shaped? The Only Minority Destroying America Is The Billionaires The Only Orange Monarch We Want Is A Butterfly I Am Aunt Tifa It’s Insanity; Bring Back Humanity Without Due Process It’s Just Kidnapping Rebellions Are Built On Hope I wasn’t the only sketcher in the park. Here are three sketchbooks: mine and an ink drawing of the crowd, plus another watercolor of the bridge and the crowd.

I had just discovered the brush pen and was trying it out. I think this is my favorite sketch of Poncho ever. I had meant to go back and finish this one (from a photo, obviously) but I really like the way it looks as is. My first ever sketch of Poncho. That little face just kills me. So regal. Messerschmitt ME-262A jet fighter, drawn in ink. I chose an angle that would easily exclude the swastika markings. I like drawing planes and military vehicles, but today that insignia meant more. As I sat there staring at this brilliant piece of deadly technology, designed and built by humanity’s worst regime, a family came by: two adults and two young kids. I overheard the dad say, “Those were the bad people. They lost. The good people won.” It made me wonder: when did our people forget this? When did we decide that the Nazis were the example we wanted to follow? I don’t think we’re the good people any more.
