Such an astute comment. I’ve been in Waymo cars, they were fine (well, totally mad for 10 minutes then fine). But I did wonder how much the trip really cost.

Plus whether London’s traffic cones are significantly different to San Francisco’s.

And who’d be charged with any dangerous driving.
The big one is that the cost of a lidar rig is persistently high; but beyond that, waymo also has:
* an unknown number of remote operators on the clock
* an unknown insurance premium versus human drivers
* a lower number of trips per hour than human drivers (thanks in part to er following the law)

I know @lewisbaston.bsky.social is great on borders and local electoral dynamics but, really, it’s discovering all these new daily games that’s changed *my* life. Thank you!

This is *exactly* what it’s all about, creating a delegitimising construct about trans people’s right to exist, and why we have to find ways to resist it.
The media headlines I have seen are reporting this decision as one which definitively says “woman” is a fixed biological category “in the law.” This was not the *legal* outcome. But the politics of the outcome will enable some to make the world more inhospitable for trans people. We must refuse it.
So much anti-trans litigation is not about the legal outcome. The litigation instead is a political strategy designed to foster a public atmosphere of hostility and anxiety for trans people and frame trans rights as an abstract debate. We must keep resisting this institutionalisation of transphobia.
