On November 14, 1891, Sir Frederick Banting was born. He discovered insulin in 1921 and effectively made diabetes a treatable disease, when it was previously a death sentence. He sold the patent for insulin for $3 saying "insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world."

Anyway, relatedly: I made this video about yellow paint, why it's happening so much, what gamers want vs what they need, how fidelity hurts us in a weird way, how art direction is hard, etc!

re prime 4 discourse, todasy is as good a time as any to say:

video games talk AT you way too much in the 2020s!

i'm not talking abt too much narrative (not a real issue). i'm talking abt a constant, patronizing use of narration to /predigest/ everything from challenge to mood to emotional impact!

NieR Automata genuinely might be one of the most important game releases of all time explicitly because of how it directly inspired DXVK, yes.

Well sure.

We're in a post-generational console world.

Back compat, diminishing returns on tech, importance of Fortnite/Roblox etc to console, expansion of content access to other platform types and audiences... gens just don't mean as much now.

But I still have PS6 in my '27 forecast. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here's our first look at the new Steam Machine. If Valve prices this right, it could actually disrupt consoles this time. The Steam Deck paved the way. www.theverge.com/tech/818111/...

Valve is doing a great job building a true gaming ecosystem with a unified OS that spans multiple devices.

If they lean into retail expansion and ramp up marketing, they could really break out of the niche space they currently occupy in hardware and compete with the big 3.
Steam verified program is expanding to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame. If games are already Steam Deck verified, they'll automatically be verified on Steam Machine steamcommunity.com/groups/steam...

Get outta here with this normalization bullshit.
