Excellent article on the importance of US academic research for US private enterprise, and in particular for Silicon Valley.

publican and smart bar are two of my favorite places in chicago. this bathroom in basel looks like the child of their bathrooms’ pagan union.

i was initially put off by alchemist in basel because the glassware was not properly assembled, but i found out i could order absinthe feuerzangenbowle-style. and that you get forceps and a mortar/pestle at table… also the food was excellent. shared pak choi, spätzli, lamb shank, and pork belly.

wording makes it sound like this could affect grad students also, but i didn’t read the bill text…
There are 100k students in med school each year. Room and board is about 100k per year. For 10b a year, med school could be free. We would see a wholesale change in the profession, career paths and the cost of care.

It would change the economics for every financial decision doctors
Republican plans to cap student borrowing could shatter an everyday profession
One GOP senator said anyone paying more than $100K to go to med school is "making a huge mistake." But the median cost of attending one is more than double that for the class of 2025.

i am somewhere between embarrassed (how could i not know about this band?), shocked (seriously, how???), and excited (a whole catalogue of new (to me) music!) that i was completely unfamiliar with The Young Gods before this article. great stuff.
