Every time I see "USMNT" my brain parses it as "US Mutant Ninja Turtles" and it makes whatever headline 10x more confusing

The 22yo was obviously much better at soccer, but A loved the community around Little League more.

Which is to say this Eephus movie is *exactly* calibrated for her.

And plus you see every one of these guys in any New England town, their exact faces.

The strength instructor always says “one minute left in this AMRAP, what are you gonna do with it” but “weep quietly for my undisciplined youth” is never an available option

Wordlebot told me this morning “[whatever] was a good guess, but ‘bigot’ would be more efficient” and I was like tell it to your reporters, little guy.

The NYT morning newsletter this morning was explicitly devoted to “AI Haters” and “creation of a CSAM and involuntary porn machine” didn’t even make the list.
I am very concerned that the reaction of political, business and media elites to the creation of a massive public CSAM engine by some of the richest people in the world is gonna be a big collective shrug and I do not feel good about this
This does seem just a little bit bad! Idk the sort of thing you’d think politicians might distance themselves from or something!

My favorite meaningless local squabble is about xmas tree pickup: Our city always waits until the trash week after Three Kings to start taking trees.

But, every year, people will start putting their trees out as early as the 26th, so you get trees rolling around like tumbleweed.

Cal me old-fashioned but you will never convince me to take a class called “evening flow” in the morning.

What if my sacred energies get confused and I go back to bed?

The bravery of Warnock in going after … a 17yo who is far from our most irritating player today. 🙄
January 1, 2026 at 7:18 PM
Tfw it’s so obviously a mistake from the ref that even Warnock has to say “uh, ghats obviously a corner “
January 1, 2026 at 6:54 PM
A Leeds player pulls out a gun and shoots a LFC player in midfield. Warnock reacts: “it’s a contact sport.”

A Leeds player falls over near any LFC player. Warnock reacts: “I’m frankly shocked that’s not a yellow card.”

Over and over again.
I hate Stephen Warnock

…. And that’s why players dive.

If Ekitike goes down, that’s a pen every week.

Refs are so stupid

Finishing the index for @johannawinant.bsky.social's LYRIC LOGIC, a shining example of how a book can intervene in a field and recast the entire discipline that grounds it. Indispensable reading for everyone in literary studies and philosophy.

The thing is I roughly think this way *inside my head*—like my reflexive mental model of bodies is absurdly stupid—but … not out loud? And I wouldn’t *act* on that silliness.
Trump admits to taking more aspirin than his docs recommend: “They say aspirin is good for thinning out the blood, and I don’t want thick blood pouring through my heart. I want nice, thin blood pouring through my heart. Does that make sense?”

Stand and applaud Jess Nevins avoiding the obvious typo here
German author Edmund Kiss' Ases, from his 1930-1939 tetralogy, beginning with DAS GLAESERNE MEER. Perhaps the foremost example of pro-fascist sf written under the Nazis. The Ases are Stone Age Aryans who rule through fascism, taking slaves, and treating women like fascists will. But--
