Can probably stop taking this article entirely seriously right about the moment it characterizes the author of the recent Atlantic diatribe against the Mellon Foundation as “left.”

But even on its own assumptions it would make more sense to ask, “why are so many AI alignment ppl right-friendly?”
Absolutely brilliant piece about the Left's TOTAL blindness on AI. Their dismissal of AI risks mirrors how climate deniers treat CO2.

Will probably get a lot of nastiness for this on Bluesky, but I guess that's part of the same problem.

The left is missing out on AI
As a movement, it has largely refused to engage seriously with AI, ceding debate about a threat and opportunity to the right

I watch a lot of soccer and was briefly confused Sunday night as to why I was seeing a pile of FIFA t-shirts in a gift shop at SFO.

There’s not just “no hype”; the US administration has produced anti-hype *and* FIFA can’t stop punching itself
You don't need a degree to understand why there is no "hype"

Gonna be cranky if the Charli XCX record is good enough it pushes me to see the movie after all

The other day A said “that time I was really upset because you wouldn’t come home that first winter in CT 22 years ago in your 10min break between classes to fix our windows … I no longer think that was realistic.”

So, if you wait long enough I guess good things can happen

Taking red-eye flights absolutely destroys me these days; I’m going to assume it’s “government shenanigans” and obviously not “well, not as young as back in the day.”

CT has some honest new signs up at the airport

Look, we were already flying into Connecticut: it was bleak from the jump.

Also, this hardly seems important enough to warrant a txt message

United has been emailing all day hyping up the fact that our flight out of SF will have Starlink wifi.

For a redeye, departing at midnight. Not even I will use wifi overnight on a plane 🤦‍♂️

At the museum today the wall said that “an important part of his ethos was branding.”

I have no objection to an artist being good at that, but “ethos” is a wild choice

somehow the 20 minutes to grade a paper + 40 minute break after each one isn't turning out to be super-efficient

Probably not great that I sent the 22yo this article and his reaction was “that dude isn’t even making money, what is he worried about”

A: chooses (reasonably!!) to spend the LFC game hanging out in various local parks etc

Also A: “WHY ARE YOU GETTING ALL THESE UPDATES ABOUT HIS LIFE?!?”

my parenting strategy has never been terribly complicated

One thing that’s great about watching games with others is that it breaks our* lifelong habit of staring twitchily at the screen in deep anxiety

*ie his and mine
One of the good things about visiting the 22yo is we can go to the LFC pub in SF!

One of the most relatable lines on Craig Finn’s most recent record is a character talking about crying in the grocery because there’s too many kinds of juice
Me at 20: I’ll have it all figured out by the time I’m 40.

Me at 40: wtf do you mean they rearranged the grocery store

Wonderful to see Wash U on this list after all the water their chancellor carried for this administration
UPDATE: Hegseth has included VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY on a list of schools off limits for tuition assistance for military officers as part of his campaign against schools he describes as “biased” against the US military.🤔 www.cnn.com/2026/02/13/p...

You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).
