Le trumpisme conquérant nous rappelle que défendre les libertés académiques et scientifiques n'a jamais été neutre. Il a en effet fallu mener des combats pour obtenir cette liberté.

Il faut assumer la nécessité de cette lutte politique, plutôt que de se réfugier dans une improbable neutralité
Nous ne sommes pas à l'abri qu'un jour, on décide purement et simplement de la suppression du GIEC, ou de ses rapports, ou de sa supervision éditoriale totale par les élites politiques - ce qui pousserait les scientifiques vers la sortie. Une politique (meurtrière) de la tête dans le sable.

I wrote an op-ed on the subject during Trump 1: remember his bragging onstage at the first Presidential debate in October 2016, stating that not paying taxes for 19 years meant he was "smart?"

He and his ilk have been forcing us to pay their bills for decades.

Fun fact: over 20 years ago, Charles Rossotti--then IRS commissioner--estimated that the average American was paying an involuntary, undisclosed 15% surcharge on their income taxes because the ultra-rich were engaging in mass tax avoidance like this.

Imagine how much higher that surcharge is now.

This paper explores the causal effect of motherhood on women's occupational class trajectories using data from the 1970 British Cohort Study. It shows that motherhood significantly increases downward mobility and limits access to professional occupations.
