bitcoin core & nostr dev. I built damus, a nostr client for iOS: https://damus.io/appstore

nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s

nostr:jb55@jb55.com
Overall this has been pretty disappointing. Uninstalling. You can find me on #nostr ✌️

enjoy your centralized garbage 😂

Damus alone has 257k installs according to apple, and we are only one client of many. Keep making up numbers though if that makes yourself feel better.

maybe take a break from the computer if you’re this heated about protocol discussions

lol

How do I move my data and connections to a different server if i am banned? What good are the connections if they are all bluesky and not freesky users?

vibe control tech™
we’re working on the vibe control tech right now: curation and moderation. *that* is protocol. curation and moderation in a social network just is core protocol. you know it is because we all know the nightmare that would follow if we didn’t do that first

Mastodon had fundamental architectural flaws: not being able to migrate your social graph and the non-uniformity of post distribution. nostr fixes both of these. If your social graph is tied up in bluesky and not freesky, and you need to run a PDS, i dont see how either is fixed here

If Bluesky, the company, adopts server-side or client-side moderation, it will be no different from Twitter or other centralized networks.
The majority of moderation, if not all, should be done by the user for their own experience. It should not be left mainly to clients and servers.

Instead, we should provide users with more tools to customize their own experience.

I would like to know this as well. This is something that is very natural in nostr and is easy as spinning up a new relay and pointing your client at it.
May 8, 2023 at 1:44 PM
We have 500k+ users on relays that are actually decentralized. nostr is not a product, its a protocol, and there are 30+ clients. UX is something can be improved over time, not foundational architectural flaws. bluesky does seem like a scam in comparison.

Why is everyone so angry here

If it’s a protocol I’m a fan! I’m not married to any particular technology. I just like to see non centralized solutions flourish and am curious how they can interoperate.

Oh it does have a dark mode it just doesn’t respond to system settings :/
April 29, 2023 at 12:38 PM
maybe one day we’ll all be able to interact regardless of what client we’re using 🫂

Anyone land any banger skeets today?
April 29, 2023 at 12:50 AM
Yes. nostr is not for one subculture, it’s for everyone.
April 28, 2023 at 9:59 PM
Who decides the culture? The early adopters? Seems artificially limiting. Need to build tools that allow different cultures to exist simultaneously. Its the only thing that will scale these networks to the point they can take over centralized solutions. Unless that’s not the goal.

Someone built a bridge between nostr and activitypub and it is great! Modulo a few quirky people.

Harmful in what sense?
