Husband, father, grandfather, court reporter, writer of books, preparer of food, taker of pictures, travel blogger, struggling landscaper, and trying to leave my corner of the world a littler better than when I got here.
Will you just show a little humanity for once, show appropriate compassion, and stop being churlish and blameful like a fourth grader?

People are looking for comfort and reassurance. Keep the divisive hatred to yourself for once.

"I wonder if the Emperor Honorius watching the Visigoths coming over the seventh hill truly realized that the Roman Empire was about to fall. This is just another page in history, isn't it? Will this be the end of *our* civilization? Turn the page."

I hardly ever watch football. I couldn't name more than a handful of players. But I watched last night.

Coach: If you can get passing, receiving, and running touchdowns, you can sit out for a while.

Quarterback: Hold my beer.

That was amazing. Why sports are cool, even when they're not.

Heading to the mattress this Sunday night that caps the American Thanksgiving weekend, and starting to realize the awful reality that lies ahead.
December 2, 2024 at 6:11 AM
The stuffed bird's in the oven, giblets on slow boil, mulled cider starting to simmer, jalapenos halved and in an ice water bath. Family coming over with other food. Overeating begins in three... two...

Have a great Thanksgiving, all who celebrate.

Not that I'm a notable political poster. I am not.

But now, I can't post politically because I am defeatist. I have lost faith. I see a downward spiral (okay, helix) that my words will not mitigate. Ignorance, blind adherence, and rigid advocacy rule.

That voice is neither needed nor heard here.

A meme a while back that I particularly liked.

You Matter.
Unless You multiply by the speed of light squared.
Then You Energy.

Look, there will be better reasons to unfollow me in the future, guaranteed.

A home screen shot on one of my laptops. In one of my rare photo triumphs, a client said, "Where did you get that photo?"

Wellllll............. I took it.

The question might come up: Do you miss Xitter?

Not me. In fact, it's a nicer day for me, every day, without that anti-enjoyment influence in life. I didn't realize how toxic it really was until it was gone.

Still, I hope people there are enjoying their continued experience. Just not for me.
November 22, 2024 at 4:00 PM
Got to smile at people who are sneering about "fleeing" Xitter.

If I don't like a party, or a toxic workplace, or a potholed street, or a rattletrap car, I simply leave it. I don't "flee." It's not a danger. It's just become unpleasant at best, or intolerable at worst, to stay any longer.

Up for a story set in early '80s in Colorado suburbia that begins with a terrible assault and explores the characters' motives and actions, both noble and malicious, racial tensions raised in the community, the search for truth, and the battle against injustice?

Sure you are.

Dear Bluesky @bsky.app.

If you simply allowed for post-posting edits of posts, you would be light-years ahead of TOP. (That Other Platform.)

You'd even be catching up to Zuck.

With hope and love.

What can I talk about.

The triumphs and frustrations of writing stories.

The stories from 50 years of court reporting and hearing human drama, achievements, and despair.

World travel.

Cooking for nutrition and delicion (I made that up).

Photography.

I dunno. Does any of it resonate?

To others watching US.

No accounting for it. Yes, we know lessons of history. Yes, we can see simple reality. Yes, this has been done before to disastrous effect.

Our slim thread of hope is that the US processes don't allow for what we've seen elsewhere.

It's not much, but it's what we've got.

Happy Saturday in my part of the hemisphere!

Mid-November in Colorado, in the past, we bundled up. But there I was in shirtsleeves, doing yardwork, in hoax weather.

Peace & love, y'all, with a picture from my town at dawn.

We had friends working in Guadalajara for a while, and we went down to visit with them for a bit.

Did some touring, including a glass factory. I took this picture of a glass worker there. Kept color in the molten glass. Thought it looked cool.

Do you want to read a post-apocalypse series? No zombies, no dystopia, nothing supernatural? Just people trying to get by and slowly build a community? It's called the Remains series, because it's who remain and, man, there's a lot of remains. Three books.

Sure you do.
