Want a simple rule to reign in oligarch influence?

Pass a law that states that the maximum amount you can donate = the average amount you paid in taxes the last 5 years. The amount you donate also sets a minimum income tax obligation the next 5 years.
Apply to individuals and corporations.

I find it fascinating watching words slowly lose their meaning but remain attached to concepts.

I see generations that wonder why we get a new “line” for a cell phone or why we “dial” a number by pressing numbers.

Why directors yell “cut” and material is left on the “cutting room” floor?

Perfection is not attainable. But this should not be de-motivating or cause for despair.

The futility of perfection necessarily implies limitless opportunities for improvement.
That is the womb of progress if indomitable will, perseverance, honesty, and humble reflection serve as its nursemaids.

Just some thoughts I wanted to ponder.

Societies are an amalgamation of tribes. The boundaries of those tribes are subject to individual perception which is subject to cultural winds and manipulation through media.

Identification with a tribe can provide shortcuts to social interaction.

I would much rather see an FTC and CPA with good leadership and teeth do a surprise roundup of deceitful advertisers on #Youtube than see half-baked #ICE agents assault workers in a home depot parking lot. But then again i despise lies and value people. Half of America feels the opposite.

I would love to have a national as-free holiday. One day a year where all advertising and ads are banned. No one trying to manipulate or deceive to make a quick buck.

Since this was published yesterday, NPR reports JAMA joins NEJM on the list of journals that confirms they’ve been sent threatening letters by Trump’s DOJ, ominously referencing their tax-exempt status in a bid to compel regime-friendly editorial choices.

Today I:
Went to work

Swam 1000 yds in 30 minutes on my break

Played in the 1st snowfall here in 15 yrs or so

Played a computer game from 1989 on a modern pc using a 65 inch 4K oled tv as a monitor

Pushed down disappointment in others and elevated the love from dogs and friends.

How much better off would humanity be if we treated absolute certainty as a shameful character flaw.

The willingness to acknowledge error and recognition of our own fallibility are the only paths that lead to improvement.

For Maths fans, 2025 is a square.
45² = 45 x 45 = 2025
Also,
9² x 5² = 2025
40² + 20² + 5² = 2025
My favourite?
1³+2³+3³+4³+5³+6³+7³+8³+9³ = 2025
