Since Trump’s return to power, some of the companies that have seen the biggest drops in market capitalisation have come from Silicon Valley.

Risk management’s tricky: one tends to underestimate the risks that never materialize in their own lives.
A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Funny, the countries that didn't get tariffs:

Russia
North Korea
Cuba
Venezuela
Berlarus
Somalia
Burkina Faso

are, except for Cuba, which abstained, the same countries the US voted together with against the UN resolution condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

I wonder how much of insider trading there has been prior to Trump’s tarriffs or other (non-)econ policies. Even US Congress members are infamous for their insider knowledge driven trades. Massive transfers of wealth.

The EU is our risk manager. As any risk management tool, it needs to be taken care of perpetually and sustainably, not opportunistically as our gvt typically does.
We have today paid an advance of €100 million to Spain for post-DANA storm recovery, to help finance its recovery efforts.

The EU remains fully committed to supporting the people and region of Valencia through this challenging recovery.

Some countries were more affected than others by the US aid cuts. The Democratic Republic of Congo was significantly impacted, where two-thirds of the funding came from Washington.

Musk: I mean, have you Tim Walz, who is a huge jerk, running on stage with the Tesla stock price.. What an evil thing to do. What a creep, what a jerk. Like who derives joy from that?

Are employees and other shareholders of companies co-owned by Musk completely at his will? Don’t they have any say in how he ruins value of their companies and their products?
Elon Musk has lashed out at Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, branding him “small man” after Sikorski objected to Musk’s claim that he could collapse Ukraine’s entire front line by turning off the Starlink system. This adds to the friction between Team Trump and Europe

Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024.

You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right?

Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year.

You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.
Tesla Paid Zero Federal Income Tax in 2024, Despite $2.3 Billion in Income
This brings Tesla’s average tax rate over the past three years to 0.4 percent.

Trump just undid the only good thing GWB did in his entire 8 years.
Many sudden and shocking health care developments this week. But this was a big one: The Trump administration on Friday paused funding for PEPFAR, the famed program to fight HIV/AIDS around the world.

Funds for fight against HIV/AIDS paused in Trump aid freeze
The President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, or PEPFAR, is credited with saving 25 million lives worldwide and has long enjoyed bipartisan support.

Around 60k pro-EU gathered to protest the outrageus shifts in gvt policies in Bratislava, and additional dozens of thousands around Slovakia. This comes after the gvt issued statements in the past few days that there were foreign groups trying to overthrow it. Clearly misguided and untrustworthy.
