Hello everyone! It’s probably time for a quick introduction.
My favourite things on BlueSky are #chatbiology, #chatchemistry, and #chatphysics. I’m hoping that more immigration to BlueSky will give the evening chats a shot in the arm, as I don’t always have much to contribute depending on the topic.
In case you missed it…
#EduBlogClub is starting on Monday 5th January at 8pm UK time. If you can’t make it, please do drop in after the fact and keep the conversations going.

#EduBlogClub in 2026 is going to start with the @teachertapp.bsky.social #1 blog from their Christmas countdown - Joyous Ownership Of Our Pupils With SEND.
8pm UK time. I’ll ask three questions over half an hour relating to the blog. Grab a brew and join the convo.

I’m making a New Year’s Resolution in response to @markgoodrich.bsky.social‘s call regarding getting more involved over here. I’m going to start #EduBlogClub on Mondays at 8pm (UK time). I’ll pick a blog, and ask three questions about it. Let’s try to get some conversations flowing.
Happy New Year's Eve everyone. If you are a teacher (or indeed anyone) still posting on X, I have a suggested New Year's Resolution for you. Stop!

If you agree, please REPOST here and on X if you maintain an account there.

What book(s) have you enjoyed in 2025?
I am not sure I’ll get the same traction here as I did on the dark place but please answer and REPOST and let’s try to build a lovely bookish thread.

The best book you read this year was…

Mine undoubtedly The Elements by John Boyne (please check trigger warnings first).

@prisonjournalism.bsky.social came across my feed this morning. Can recommend giving it a look. There’s a recent article about cats too (I think you’ll enjoy it even if you’re not a cat person).
"All night long, I thought about how to use an item from the vending machine to teach math since my prison didn’t provide pens, pencils or crayons. Eventually I settled on an imaginative solution that would make even Albert Einstein proud."

It’s kicking off in the parental home, following a festive chippy tea.
Mum decreed that she was too full to have trifle, so Dad has started peeling an orange for his pudding. She’s now decided on banana and custard, which is “delicious”.
WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED!!!
Trifle for breakfast, anyone?

I really don’t feel confident that a US tech giant has so much access to patient data. If this is the way forward, why can’t this be done by local tech? My husband works for one such firm, and there must be others.

I don’t understand the disparity of entry requirements to study A Levels compared with T levels.
A level chemistry - 6 good passes at GCSE, including 2 at grade 6.
T level in laboratory sciences - 5 GCSEs grade 4 and above including maths, English & science.

Train to Birmingham from Manchester are cancelled. So, having been rerouted, I am now standing on a platform in Sheffield. There’s a station announcer at Sheffield who is taking absolutely no BS from anyone this evening. I am convinced she must have taught my Year 10 class in a previous life 🤣

17 of my tutor group did the 2025 BeeWell survey this week. Within the class, 4 didn’t understand the question on one occasion or more and asked me for help. Wonder how many others didn’t understand, but didn’t ask.
