this stuff is happening across the country and even more intensively downstream of the veterans admin but it's happening in so many places at once and without any public notification that it's still only barely emerging in the news
A friend drove two hours today for her breast cancer chemotherapy only to learn it was canceled due to NIH cuts. Clinical trial ended midstream. No treatment, no restart, no plan, no information. Her bro-in-law's chemo was also canceled.

As predicted, women in New Hampshire had a hard time voting yesterday because of the new proof of citizenship law:

“It doesn’t have my married name on it,” she said. Town voting officials then sent her away a second time, to get her marriage certificate.

NH’s new ID requirements send some would-be voters home to grab passports, birth certificates
The law requires all new voters to show proof of their U.S. citizenship. For some, that meant making multiple trips to and from the polls before finally casting a ballot on Tuesday.

Trump rode to political prominence on birtherism and spent the last month of his campaign claiming that Haitians were eating cats.

The rise of authoritarianism in America *must* be understood as a misinformation crisis.
There's also seemingly no acknowledgement of a massive right-wing propaganda machine stirring this sentiment up. Where it does exist it's largely a manufactured, tribal outrage, it's not actually regular people getting so offended they go fash over this stuff. That's important.

New reality show- have EM and 47 live on minimum wage for a year with no help from govt salaries, contracts, or tax breaks.

I love me some 'norms and traditions' as much as the next guy but maybe just this once we can stop pretending that our country isn't in grave danger and throw some elbows? It's not like Republicans give a shit about norms. So, please Democratic Senators, let's go! open.substack.com/pub/fpwellma...

Journalists miss the real story of Trump because of the way it covers him, press critic Dan Froomkin writes. He cites me on a better way:

The bottom half of America? It holds just 6%.

A GOP member of the House DOGE Caucus admitted yesterday that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are "on the table".

Don't be fooled: the real mission of DOGE isn't to make government more "efficient".

It's to slash the social safety net on behalf of the billionaires.

Trump wants to revert to our nation’s dark past of trickle-down economics that benefit the ultra-wealthy while hurting the middle class. This includes passing $5 trillion in tax cuts for the rich and cutting essential programs that hard working families rely on, like Social Security and Medicare.
