I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

In a world of people who cared consistently about non-human animals, vegans wouldn’t be seen as heroes or role models. They’d just be seen as normal.

I find it oddly dissonant when pro philosophers / public intellectuals talk about vegetarianism as a moral response to the horrors of animal exploitation.

I think they mean veganism, but they seem to have “vegetarian” as a strong language default.

What’s going on here?

In a worldviews workshop this morning I asked a group of 60 kids: “Why do we care about humans?”

A 10-year-old girl immediately answered, “Because we have feelings.”

Yep 👍

If you’re not a white Christian I’d suggest you shouldn’t support white Christian nationalists.

We all know that, while we need to wear clothes, we don’t need to wear a fur coat.

Just as, while we need to eat and drink, we don’t need to eat or drink animal products.

Ethics is so easy 🤷‍♂️

It's 2025 & prominent environmental thinkers are still talking as though fossil fuels are the only problem & humans are the only victims.

The catastrophic impacts of animal agriculture don't get a mention. Nor do the obvious solutions of plant-based agriculture & the resulting land use change.
What a brilliant launch evening for The Growth Story of the 21st Century by Professor Lord Nicholas Stern! 🎆

We all want to be kind to animals ❤️

One great way is not paying people to exploit, hurt and kill them.

When did you last think about your worldview?
Most people rarely think about their worldview.

That’s fine if it’s a good worldview.

But it’s dangerous if it’s a bad one.

Even in war, people care about animals.

Yet most people can’t seem to care about animals at lunchtime.

Humans are weird. Let’s be less weird.

When I wrote about militant fundamentalism in the US military in my book C St, I was talking to select colonels & generals who saw the US as waging Christian holy war. Christian fascism has since gotten a promotion.

Isn’t it weird how some victims seem to matter much less than others.

Their suffering or death just ignored or met with a shrug.

And how some perpetrators seem to matter much less than others.

Their oppression and violence just ignored or met with a shrug.

Has any conspiracy theorist ever exposed an actual conspiracy?

Or is it always investigative journalists (real ones), whistleblowers or victims?
