Another early statehood era Alaskan contemporary oil painting by Dean Brennan, in Anchorage, circa 1958, with distinct figures and faces in this abstracted paintnig. According to a note on the back, it was exhbited at the Henry Art Museum in Seattle I think in 1959.

Oil painting by my dad, Burt Bollenbach, dated 1957, in Anchorage, with "Ariel's Song" from The Tempest hand-written on the back. I still use my dad's wood easel, bought at Blaine's art supplies in Spenard, about this time.

Some Statehood era Anchorage paintings, collected by Burt and Amy Bollenbach, painted 1956-1975.

One of Mom's favorites, by the mysterious Sonna Holmes, skilled, beautiful, reluctant to sell. She left Anchorage in the 1960s. Oil, probably from life, circa 1958..

Fish and Freedom or Crude and Fascism in Alaska: Murkowski instant endorsed The Taupe Avenger Sen. Dan Sullivan over the impressive, reasonable moderate with long record of working across the aisle, Native Alaskan Mary Peltola.

This protest sign brought me dozens of stories of elders in WWII 🇺🇸 who sought the Four Freedoms, from D-Day to the skies and seas and the hunt for Nazis at home. We know the history and we know their sacrifice. We reject fascism, and we embrace democracy, for the moral principles that they did.

A lack of weather balloon data may have factored in the the typhoon disaster in western Alaska this year. Fed cuts to save Musk & crew taxes.

My forecaster dad worried, in the 60s, new satellites grabbed funding from weather balloons: crucial, benchmark weather data.

In 1943, my uncle Duane took a pretty dim view of fascism and went in a B-17 and dropped at least 25,000 pounds of high explosives on fascists until they shot him.

Like Ohio or W. Virginia, Alaska's Gov. Dunleavy could send Alaskan National troops on a made-up Trumpist excuse to occupy Seattle.

Alaskans press, press hard, hard: you're dependent on the normal trade and good will with of the people of Washington. This is a test of friendship against a bully.

Any Alaska cop, trooper, or MP that arrests Putin on sight would be serving the intent of the International Criminal Court and its outstanding warrant for his arrest, for war crimes. This cop would be a hero to the world.

Sadness is natural, but despair is a powerful tool of the enemies of justice.

Do not spend a second convincing people working for good things that their work is hopeless. That's not cutesy nihilism, that is enforcing despair.

Do not volunteer to do the fascists' work.

Krome Miami is run by NANA / Akima the Alaska Native Corporation. Each report is worse than the last.

Why aren’t we seeing shareholders protesting these abuses?

Sens. #Murkowski & #DanSullivan should know that the political organization they support, like any fascist party, will target their own supporters who dissent or digress. The potato starch-flavored concern they'll express on a Senator's arrest will not protect them.

My dad, Burt Bollenbach, at Weather Bureau at the then Hill Building in Anchorage, early 1960s. At the time, the temperature and pressure maps had to be drawn by hand.

Every protest I’ve attended in SC has been peaceful. Cops were kind and removed disrupters. This rhetoric out of DC is meant to instill fear and keep people away. Show up. Know your rights. Save democracy.

Tom Begich's ADN column says nephew has now surrendered to a path of darkness and authoritarianism that will injure Alaskans and degrade the United States. Rep. Nick Begich III wants fascism, as long as he's in on it; he's now spit on his grandfather's celebrated legacy of public service.

Alaska medical research pros, don't hold back. Get all your people together and go after Nicky the House Elf.
Superb and important article, pointing out that politically the best way to save biomedical research is to get communities around different diseases informed of the problem, and set them loose on their congresspeople. Right now they just don't know what's going on. How to make this happen?
