Very proud to have been asked to work on this for John and David at Plumeria. It’s been a joy.

Prints are available in my store at the link below- a portion of each sale will be donated to the Samaritans to aid their pre Christmas campaign

Why is the pearl clutching ConLab MP’s first reaction always to ban, rather than to understand the root of issues? They default to the authoritarian.
They’ve already broken the internet in the UK, but if I want it restricted I’ll move to Iran.
X is a sewer, but at least we know where the shit is.

I find most late 20thC and post-millennial abstract art worthless, low effort and utterly devoid of cathartic emphasis. Sean Scully is different, but he still can’t move me in the way that, say, Rothko can. He makes me feel like I’m communing with God himself.

‘I’m the product of a smashed-up family’: how Sean Scully became the greatest abstract painter alive
He has survived loss, breakdown and schooling by ‘scary nuns’, but the anguish is still there in his art. As his new show thrills Paris, the US-based, Irish-born artist talks about the pain that drive...

I’m pretty convinced that the original lineup is going to to announce something along the lines of a limited reunion tour this year. Bill Berry has featured in more and more posts since the rock and roll hall of fame induction last year.
They said never, and you should never say never.

Creative pursuits are meditative, satisfying and a boon to good mental health.
When they go well.
Painting also drives me mad with frustration, and the constant white noise of processing and chewing over ideas is like intellectual tinnitus.

“Bowie taught me that when they demanded your identity papers, you didn’t have to comply”

This is a beautiful articulation of that thing about Bowie that many millions of us feel, but- like me- are perhaps unable to adequately say.

Buying my first Bowie record unlocked every door.
His confirmation of the existence of a world beyond the strangling parochialism of the small town, of narrow minds, where you could be who you were without apology and be anything was powerful juice.
That message remains, even if he doesn’t.

Extracting one’s self from a decade+ of streaming is not as easy as initially thought. Recording MD is a ballache. It always was. And expensive. Having CDs around is an impracticality- ripping my library will take months.
Better than funding drone warfare though, admittedly.
Fuck Spotify.

@nigelbaines.bsky.social a joy to see you again old chum.
@thestrovinator.bsky.social and I were just talking recently and he mentioned that you had spoken- I wondered how the doc was going.
I hope you’re very well indeed. You have been a big slice of sanity sorely missed.

This is grim.

Survivors continue to live with deep shame meaning they cannot easily articulate the triumph of their survival openly, which would help others realise that there is a way out of the well, because they are eternally viewed as unbalanced once marked

So after tackling Breaking Bad seventeen years late, I’ve decided that the next big ticket series that I didn’t watch at the time is The Sopranos. I’m only 27 years too late on that one.
Are there any other big shows like this that I should see?
I’ve seen the Wire. I was only eight years late.

Bowie: The Final Act is painting by numbers documentary making. The allusions to space travel are maddeningly clichéd. It’s all well-worn material, and skips over so much that’s it’s almost worthless as a document of an extraordinary career.
