@fulhamish.bsky.social would Fulham be any lower in the table today if they hadn't signed Andersen and Smith Rowe over the summer?

I finally got around to synthesising all the thoughts running around my head since #ukgc25 last week... jallen300.medium.com/uk-govcamp-2...

What love to hear what others think about all this...
UK GovCamp 2025: ‘Test and Learn’, Missions, AI and more…
GovCamp is an annual ‘unconference’ where people working in and around government get together to talk about what’s on their mind. Held on…

On my way #ukgc25

Looking forward to chatting to loads of inspiring people about how we go about 'Rewiring the state' to mainstream Test-and-Learn into the fabric of all our institutions!

Listening to News Agents @lewisgoodall.com say the Greens need to 'be better' at the media game if they want the media coverage Reform gets. I hope Lewis will read Yuval Noah Harari's Nexus to understand why we desperately need institutions that rebalance the information game toward truthfulness.

Now I've been chatting to a friend/colleague about how services are commissioned in government (or by other big funders). Are there any really good examples of commissioners embedding user-centred design thinking and methods into their work?
December 17, 2024 at 5:18 PM
Just chatting to a friend/colleague about how economists make assumptions and then use those assumptions to build cases for change. Got us thinking...

?? What can service designers learn from economists ??

Would love to hear what people think...

I’ve been thinking a lot about how government can function in ways that are more aware of and responsive to ordinary people’s needs...

Loving that 23 volunteers took notes and shared summaries of all sessions on Miro! What a brilliant and accessible knowledge repository.

Really enjoying this behavioural insights workshop run by govt of Estonia, Talinn city gov, and Finland Prime Minister's office at #govdesign

Thinking about how to enable (or block) people from keeping chickens at home led us to think about how to use *nudges* and *remove sludge* from our policies.

Once you've built credibility, write your Bible. In your jargon. Adapted to your context... And then get it embedded into your national guidelines for making services.

Great tips on scaling design practices in govt from Josep Flores (Govt of Catalonia) #govdesign

Interesting analysis of why to build design practice internally (from Josep Flores, govt of Catalonia)... Even more interesting when you see their progression year on year... From external-heavy to fully internal to fully mixed over 5 years.

Bureaucratic processes have their role and are needed, but there should also be a space for experimental approaches if we're going to have cognitively diverse policymaking.

Brilliant keynote from EU Policy Lab's David Martens at #govdesign conference.
