If you ask an LLM to assess which of 2 pieces of writing is better, it will often change its mind if you reverse the order of the two pieces. Humans don't do this.

Other researchers have found this - not just us.

The Power of Teams was such a valuable resource during my time in school leadership - it shaped my thinking as a leader and still does as I guide the curriculum team here at Twinkl.

Excited to see this course on building highly effective teams with @samcrome.bsky.social on Twinkl PD!

An interesting read - particularly given the amount of current debate on how, rightly or wrongly, our current system has assessment as upstream of any curriculum reform 👇
Formative assessment feels like the most important part of assessment - so should a national assessment system prioritise it?

Maybe not.

Latest from us about the balance between curriculum centralisation & teacher / school autonomy.
Designing the perfect assessment system, part 2
Is formative assessment the most important thing?

Are you a KS3/4 English, History or Geography teacher, leader or specialist? 🤔

I’m looking to collate insights on your experiences on the KS2/3 curriculum transition in these subjects.

If you’d be interested in sharing your insights towards this project, drop me a message for more details!

Hugely interesting piece from @daisychristo.bsky.social well worth the read beyond primary as well. Assessment structure and effectiveness from the mechanics side is both gloriously nerdy and deeply enlightening.

With oracy, reading, and writing being so low, it really does seem crazy to be sending children to KS2 who might (and I stress the might) be able to use a timeline, but that can't speak in a full sentence.

I think the scope of subjects at primary is too broad. There are some subjects that would benefit from being introduced KS3. I also think that we assign disproportionate curriculum time to some foundation subjects.

I'd remove the programmes of study for foundation subjects in KS1 (but keep the subjects), some of the more advanced grammar in KS2, most of D&T content in primary, and particularly cooking, and I'd look completely anew at English to do less but better - more precisely defined.

💬 “The curriculum is overcrowded.”

This concern coming up lots in many discussions I’ve had about the Curriculum & Assessment Review, but there’s little clarity (or evidence) on what should/could be removed.

Thoughts? Is it? Is it a symptom of something else? 🤔 #EduSky

Great food for thought here @mrrowntree.bsky.social 👇

For primary curriculum, questions to reflect over how well purposefully disciplinary knowledge leads to pupil autonomy in each subject. And in each subject, defining exactly what we want pupils to become autonomous in - e.g. Geography fieldwork
1. The challenge in primary education lies not merely in imparting knowledge but in ensuring pupils can apply it meaningfully. As Jerome Bruner observed, “Knowledge is not a set of facts to be amassed but a set of possibilities to be acted upon.” Without application, knowledge risks stagnation.

An interesting debate here from @mrmountstevens.bsky.social, particularly for primary where many schools have been (or are on the journey towards) refining subject curriculums to support the embedding of subject-specific pedagogies 👇

A lovely read from @greeborunner.bsky.social 👇 I confess to #2 historically!

Seen many primary journeys from:
- activity design hiding the curriculum
- then to a knowledge focus limiting activity design
- and then toward balancing disciplinary knowledge with activity design - a positive shift!
