Fun fact! If you use a custom color palette for your #PICO8 art it makes the text editor look like vomit!

If there's a trick to auto-reset the palette when the game exits please let me know I can't take this much longer lol

Implemented my first "sokoban-style" animation system! Instead of animating towards the desired state, the state is updated immediately and you animate "backwards" from the previous state. For simple games like this it leaves the gameplay code lovely and tidy #gamedev #PICO8

Designing puzzles for this tiny #PICO8 #gamedev project is really exciting so far. After creating the system you get to study it for interesting quirks, and then package the quirks up into levels as tightly as possible.

The process feels a lot more thoughtful than thinkful, if that makes any sense.
The level design notes become more cryptic by the minute

My first #pico8 program is up and running!!

Inspired by @adamatomic.bsky.social's "easy but not obvious" mantra, I'm trying connect-4 that lets you drop disk's from any direction.

Absolutely no idea if this will work. Once some people wake up at my house we'll playtest and report back 👀

Picked up CorgiSpace by @adamatomic.bsky.social today! Between this and UFO50, I love this style of collection for smaller projects. It feels like a gallery exhibition - a showcase of a designer during a period, instead of a showcase of one of their designs. Don’t get me wrong though, the games BANG

Been mulling over the value of releasing #gamedev demos on steam lately. Something I hadn't considered is that it filters out people who would have left bad reviews. The people who buy the game are at least on board with the premise.

Been taking time to do loads of experimentation with the KOROMEKE music. I tend to fall in love with the first thing that sounds good, but this time I'm sitting with each attempt in context for a day or two. Its helping me get a lot closer to the kind of atmosphere I was hoping for.

Risk has some nuke undertones that I only just noticed. Sets of cards inject you with troops, with the number of troops increasing for each set. In the late game, your opponents can receive a game ending force out of nowhere. It begins to feel more like a nuclear race than a strategic front.

Been working on the (top secret) theatric parts of KOROMEKE this week. I'm a lot more focused on my moment to moment reactions to the sensory experience. Its a very nice change of pace from the more analytical parts of #gamedev.
