curtailing all legal immigration, asylum claims
A huge cause of this drop in asylum grant rates is the rise of “pretermission”; judges denying applications without ever having a hearing. This used to be incredibly rare and now it’s become normal, with the Trump admin strongly pushing judges to deny on minor technical faults and red tape issues.
Asylum grant rates were lowering w/ Biden, but now cut in 1/2 with Trump. TRAC receives data from the Exec Office of Immigration Review each year. Anyway, it is worth noting that the exact same specious logic being used to systematically prosecute trans people is traces itself back to the original "birtherism" in the lead-up to the civil war. Missouri's 2nd compromise built on the idea of weaponizing birth certificate to prove legal status.

Having read this story, it’s important to understand that this could have happened under any previous administration. The law is harsh. What’s somewhat different now is that people steps from naturalization are being put into removal proceedings for decades earlier offenses; discretion is gone.

Border Patrol can operate anywhere in the country. The 100 mile zone is where they have heightened vehicle stop authority.
I'm guess Border Patrol goons are allowed to operate in Charlotte because it's within 100 miles of the South of the Border rest stop on I-95? I can't think of any real border that's close by
