Seattle gets the dub, giving @karentotten.com & me early 2-0 advantages.

For those following the Chase for the Championship, @firkon.bsky.social (6 weekly wins) is off to a 1-1 lead among the top 3, while @daveedofthedead.bsky.social & @ufochronicles.bsky.social (5 weekly wins) are also each 1-1.

Alright, BrewPoolians, for one last time this season, here is YOUR officially licensed BrewPool scorecard (traditional format) and, in light of this week's implications, an extra special 'Chase for the Championship' collector's edition scorecard. Stats to follow.

Transparency isn’t a cure in a vacuum.

It has to be paired with accountability and repercussions.

Polarization isn’t the problem. Division isn’t the problem. Political differences aren’t the problem.
Authoritarianism is the problem.
Some people see it for what it is, and some don’t.

Not from nothin’, but some Utah ol’ boys had some doings scheduled to start today. They planned to cruise into the unknown, lol, but they probably weren’t counting on the Caribbean as a war zone. skinwalkeruncharted.com

I used to think X had no public utility but it is developing into some sort of monument to billionaire hubris. It's a living museum of paranoiac mania, a Grey Gardens situation.

Other AI companies are hardly paragons of social responsibility but they can and do block what grok is doing, or at least try. It's not some "oh the tech can't stop it" thing. It's a 100% willful choice to enable and participate in people doing crimes with it. No plausible denial of culpability.

I read a passel of books in 2025. I had made a commitment that year to read more fiction. Nonfiction inspires thought, fiction inspires imagination. Here are three novels I won't be forgetting, and will surely re-read. -->

Parker's piece nails why this matters. "Tech companies... would rather not answer for their products’ failures. Every headline that says “Grok apologizes” or “Grok admits” or “Grok says” creates a world where the chatbot takes the fall while Musk and his executives face no scrutiny whatsoever."

While we can always argue finer points of NCAAF playoffs, it’s proving effective and entertaining this season. Win it on the field, not in a popularity contest.

If ya ask me, they've gotten irresponsible with the 4th down gambles. Georgia may have just sealed its fate, & Bama turned the ball over on downs earlier today during the first half of a then-scoreless game on its own side of the field. They're denying their players opportunities to win.

It would indeed be appreciated to hear more about what people enjoy reading, viewing, etc. Surely there are praiseworthy products, blogs, researchers and so on in each of our preferred subjects of interest.
Going to try something as a new year's resolution: to attempt, on a daily basis, to post a note of praise for something I've read/seen/listened to and liked that day. Not promising I'll do it every single day, but will see how it goes!
