The West Pacific ended up at ~210 ACE and 9 major hurricane equivalent, with several of those having arguments for Category 5 intensity. This exceeded my initial expectations of the season of 140 ACE, although the reasons for this can be explained.

Guess it is as good of a time as any to say this is my first week as a Senior Hurricane Specialist at NHC. Last month marked 4 years since I started at NHC & it has been an incredibly humbling yet fulfilling experience.
It is an honor to keep on doing what I love, to help save lives & property. ๐

Typhoon Man-Yi has steadily intensified today, and currently sits at ~110kt intensity, likely to strengthen further. Most notably, the storm exhibits an extremely warm (~17c) eye.

Tropical Storm #Man-yi has become less banding dominant as deep convection has wrapped around the inner core, which has also contracted. All positive signs for significant intensification in the next 24 to 36 hours under light to moderate shear.

Almost all guidance this morning abandoned the idea of tropical depression 19 becoming more than a weak tropical storm.
The outlier is the HWRFโฆ but its track already deviates way north of the model consensus (and current observations) at hour 24, meaning far less land interaction.

It's off to the races with Typhoon Usagi. Microwave satellite imagery shows a nice curved band feeding into the core with IR imagery showing curving VHTs around the core. Rapid intesnification could begin very soon. The storm will pass over extreme OHC, which will give it ample fuel to strengthen.
