Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries 💜

The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Today’s show was my last at CNN. My closing message: It’s never a good time to bow down to a tyrant… don’t give in to the lies. Don’t give in to fear. Hold on to the truth… and hope.

I am begging otherwise-smart people to realize that often the answer to “I just saw something enraging on social media, why have I never heard about it before” is “because it’s not true.”

My neighbor texted me this morning to say that an ICE truck was on our quiet WeHo street.
Multiple cities reporting that ICE raids have begun.

I'm an immigrant & human rights lawyer. I wrote this on how to handle ICE, the actions each of us can take to protect our immigrant neighbors, & debunking anti-immigrant hate.

It's hilarious that a group of people that essentially has risen to power under the pretense of Christian values and througy misuse of the evangelical pulpit are crying like babies at a Bishop giving a very Christ-like message. Crying politics don't belong in church.

For anyone wondering if he was into Highway 61 Revisited, however, my kiddo did NOT find the slide whistle nearly as thrilling as I did. But, I still have hope for his future as a radical leftist.

Spent part of last night trying to explain how folk music was helping to feed change in the '60s to my 8-year old (mostly so I could play him Highway 61 Revisited), and realizing that we're now the people who boo'd Dylan at Newport as we fail to embrace radical progressive change.

The new White House has already deleted dozens of environmental justice websites and reports. Worry not, they’re all backed up on various independent university websites. eelp.law.harvard.edu/tracker-type...

In the environmental justice system, there are two groups.

The endangered species who need wise evidence-based policy to recover

And the extremist anti-science politicians who won't give it to them.

These are their stories.

My latest for @the-revelator.bsky.social :

I spoke to experts about some of the most threatened species in US waters, the threats they face, the policy solutions they need to recover, and why the second Trump administration is likely to be a disaster for them.

The waters around the U.S. are home to threatened species who need conservation policies to save them from extinction. They won’t get that for the next four years.

When petty problems temporarily distract from societal collapse: is the TV completely dying or my 8-year old hijacking my Spotify account to play Kidz Bop the worst indignity? (Or is it welcoming the petty annoyances to avoid falling apart in the face of the collapse?)

On Joan Baez’ birthday, here’s a sublime version of her best-known original song. It’s a duet with Judy Collins and appeared on one of Collins’ albums. Heavenly.

I'm too overwhelmed to talk about the state of the world, but I do want to complain about BookTok fooling me, once again, into thinking our reading tastes overlap.
