Cindy House’s essay “Chipmunk”features a rogue rodent, a new baby, piles of poop, and the moment someone transforms into a complete stranger. Here she shares just one thing about the piece:

Sent a friend my thesis & she sent it back annotated, including dated screenshots of her notes app when she tried to capture the same ideas I wrote about, & compared one of my essays to our mutual favorite essay. This is the best thing that's happened to me

Thanks Last Syllable Lit for publishing an essay that is either about: sleep, intensity, acting, my stroke, my OCD, procedural television, a moment of kindness on social media, or @vincentdonofrio.bsky.social. I hope it’s the latter, but most likely all of the above. lastsyllablelit.com/procedural

Our name is inspired by one of Macbeth’s most memorable soliloquies reflecting on the fleeting and meaninglessness of mortality. We believe that writing and sharing our work makes us immortal and ensures that we will be there until "the last syllable of recorded time."
We publish long-form poetry, prose, and multi-modal works. We want to make a space where long-form pieces are the expectation—not the exception!
We’re really excited to open for submissions soon! Stand by for guidelines and get those long-form works ready…
