Hi!! I’m Issy, a palaeontologist and current masters student at Edinburgh studying ankylosaur brains and ecology. I’m a freelance field tech interested in conservation/prep, and am also working on the evolution of dinosaur skin and pachycephalosaurs!
So lucky to be able to be able to take part in so many cool opportunities here in Edinburgh! Adam absolutely smashed it and we had a bunch of fun 😎
Fun evening at @pintofscience.uk, talking dinosaurs over a cold Guinness and showcasing the work of our awesome Edinburgh students!

First @adammpalaeo.bsky.social wowed the crowd with his keynote on dinosaur brains, and then our student panel captivated everyone with a discussion on their research.

Yesterday I accidentally said ‘WWE’ instead of ‘WWF’ to my tutor group of undergrads and didn’t notice until someone starting humming the John Cena entrance theme :) and they all laughed at me :)

Writing tip: After you finish, go back & cut all the adverbs. Then all the adjectives. Then all the other words. Eat the paper. Now you're free.

My love of body horror comes from the Zoobooks page where live, moving animals were gradually stripped of their flesh

The mummy of an ankylosaurid dinosaur, Scolosaurus, described by the queer Hungarian icon, Franz Nopcsa, in 1928. The holotype with amazingly preserved "carpace" of osteoderms, scutes and skin impressions is on display at the Natural History Museum London. 🪖

Contrast the rich ground flora of a native rainforest, and the barren grasses that replace it with sheep grazing.

Society MUST start offering farmers a viable income option from rewilding.

Until that happens, we are all to blame for the ongoing death of Irish nature. 🌏

Research proposal presentation for my MScR project is complete!! I love yapping about dinosaurs and brains! 😊

Lots of presentation practise this week, last Friday I chatted to our palaeo lab about my pachycephalosaur work & had some great questions.

Next step: start segmenting some brains 🧠 👂🏼👃🏼
