Nicely summarised!! Thank you 👍
On an old and unsuccessful official project I tried to evolve NNs using genetic evolution.
More recently on my own, I took 2 weeks to get the evolution working - but only because it took so long to write the perceptron print-outs!
NNs evolve very nicely.
The organizational phenotypic effects of layered, interdependent transcription factors (TFs) are functionally analogous to a multilayered perceptron (MLP) in how they process information, though the underlying mechanisms of "training" differ significantly.

What the KENNEDY Center used to be…

Remember that time Aretha Franklin performed at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors, paying tribute to Carole King, who co-wrote “You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman,” and it brought a tear to Obama’s eye and everyone to their feet? And Carole King’s reaction. Wow.

Yup - it's not just about protein coding. It's clear from the ENCODE project results that 90% or more of evolution in general -not just of cognition- is done by genes regulating each other. It's so neatly managed now that the network looks just like a 3-layer perceptron:

🧪 Scientists are learning more about higher levels of emergent interactions between transcription factors- is this a new 🔑 to understanding both primitive and sentient cognition phenotypes in animal neuroscience?

Lee et al. used B-lymphoblastoid cells from three great ape species and humans to show that human ZEB2 is distinct in regulating a larger repertoire of genes implicated in neuronal development.
