Last year RIS celebrated 50 years of the journal, and this year @mybisa.bsky.social is celebrating their 50th anniversary! Seems like a perfect moment to revisit our 2024 special issue: on the futures of IR.

2 realities: a gilded oval office; millions of USers marching under #NOKINGS banners. Extremists deploying a queer peril; the power of queer activists in encampments, in the street, in elected office in cities like Columbus, defending justice & human rights.

Knowledge does not bow down to tyrants.
Is Columbus safe for LGBTQI+ travelers? Can you be detained or profiled? Is the US military present at airports?

As I wrote in the newsletter, I respect and admire members who are taking a stand and will not come to #ISA2026. I also understand members who need in-person engagement with colleagues and mentors around the world to advance their work. Knowledge cannot bow down to tyrants.
Alt, don’t attend US based conferences until further notice.

Wonderful first afternoon for BISA-ISA workshops in Newcastle! It’s not ‘fun’ to talk about global crises but connecting in person bolstered my thinking about professional and personal ways we can respond. Grateful to be part of the @isanet.bsky.social community in challenging times
