March 30, 1924: A fire sweeps Negaunee Hospital in Michigan, killing two patients and an orderly. The worker, Axel Martinson, is posthumously awarded the Carnegie Medal for heroism for giving his life to save a woman. The destroyed building on Teal Lake Road is later rebuilt.
