The American War to come
The last of our strategic maple syrup reserve had been used to stickify the roads and gum up the American tanks as they lumbered across the border in late summer. But it wasn’t enough, and Ottawa had fallen soon after. Though the government had surrendered, we kept fighting on. Winter came and the resistance took shape. We Canadians have certain skill sets that set us apart when the snows come, and come, and come some more. Several three-man teams would flank the America camps at cardinal points; a spotter, a pin-puller, and a stick-man. In the span of minutes, every single tent in a brigade had a grenade launched into it by way of hockey stick; with better speed, accuracy and silence than any mortar team could muster. The troops could not tell where the grenades were coming from, and sometimes shot in the direction of their own troops. Then the hockey grenade teams would disappear into woods as if they were ghosts in the alabaster landscape of the Great White North. Entire American brigades were rendered incapacitated; and if the explosions didn’t kill the troops, then the wounded died slow, agonizing deaths as the shrapnel carried poutine and botulism. The tanks were a problem in the Autumn, but by winter we had figured out how to slow them. Sapper teams moving like ninjas would contaminate their fuel supplies with coffee, cream, and sugar from Tim’s. Then we turned our curling stones into IEDs, which we could safely slide under every stalled vehicle from a distance across icy roads. The tankers didn’t really stand a chance. Come the springtime we discovered a new stratagem: we used drones to spray hunting pheromones over a battalion encampment and then corralled a herd of rutting bull moose in their direction. The moose did what moose do when they’re in a hormonal frenzy to f**k something; the battalion was wiped out. Anyone not trampled outright suffered multiple crushing injuries.
