I have a new friend! 😇
Our neighbors cat is so great. It showed up while i was unloading groceries and started rubbing itself against me and demanding attention. I couldn't let it inside even though it tried to enter the house multiple times

I just learned that the S in Harry S Truman doesn't actually stand for anything but is just there because both of his grandfathers had a names that started with S and that this was apparently a common practice at the time. Honestly i respect the chaos of just throwing a random letter into a name.

NO MOM, WANTING ALL RICH AND POWERFUL PEOPLE TO JOIN YOUR MEDITATION CIRCLE AND LEARN THAT SHARING IS CARING AND THEY SHOULDN'T BE GREEDY OR CRUEL ISN'T A SERIOUS POLITICAL POSITION!!!

We talked some more about them and at one point she was like straight up: "But Sophie, i thought communists opposed liberalism and nationalism. Why are you so sad they failed then?"

I just found out neither my mother or brother knew about the revolutions of 1848/49. 💀

How does one go through life not knowing literally anything about some of the most significant events of the last few centuries...

I NEED a suzerain type game set in a 19th century like setting.

I'm so grateful that the extent of structure in my life is:
friday-sunday: watch/ read/ play whatever big thing i'm on rn
monday-thursday: any other random stuff i feel like doing
all week between 6pm and midnight: voicecall with partner

I'm truly unproductivity maxxing! 😎

The more i've been trying to learn about the GFC recently the more a simple overwhelming realization is the sheer scale and interconnectedness of the response. Both domestically it is super hard to imagine an as concerted response but especially internationally the trust is just not there anymore.

I really hate how liberals treat people like children as well. i wrote more here is anyone want to read. I hope it is not too silly sounding. interplanetaryqueer.space/blog/2026/02...
Staying a child
I don’t want to grow up. Not that I want to be a child in responsibilities or that I preferred my life when I was younger. I am so glad that part of my life is over. It is seen as childish to have rad...

I regularly just have to go back sometimes and watch gul dukat episodes because he's just such an amazing villain, i love (hate) him so incredibly much.

I think it's honestly pretty likely that after the epstein files a bunch of people are just going to pivot to openly defending them then further fighting the hopeless battle of trying to pretend everyone isn't implicated. They're probably going to have a significant long term cultural impact.

Behold: a graph unironically posted by the white house twitter account.

There's still sort of a disconnect over the scale of russian casualties in ukraine for me tbh. By all credible reports more russians have become casualties since 2022 than italian, french, british or american casualties in world war 2 already. Ukraine really is a modern industrial war.

The picture of US goods exports in 2025.
I'm sure it'll be a manufacturing superpower again any day again now...

genAI is going to be a very dark continuation of where media is going. A system that is not letting new creative air in until all media is going be steamer/podcaster slop that is just recycling old information into degrade forms of the original.

AI trash content
I don’t think the effect AI is having on art is that novel but a continuation of trends. Most media that is not by truly independent artists are made by studios that need to make money and most artist...

I know it's totally comparing apples to oranges but it's still always kinda funny how everyone starts sweating at a 2.6% russian deficit when in comparison the americans and in comparison even still the europeans are are borrowing so much more.

Finally an associated press take i can agree with:
dehumanizing the french is a great thing to do in fact! 🫡

Cube apparently has about 15-20 days of oil left and it seems rn that mexico has been pressured into stopping their supplies. They only sent one shipment of 84,900 barrels twenty days ago.

I love this graph, i so often forget the immense scale of the 70s stagflation crisis, it's so easy to forget just how much it shook global capitalism to its core. The modern invention of debt, the neoliberal turn, the dollar finally fully cutting off gold, all of it can be traced back to it.

Just read Colby's speech in south korea yesterday, remarkably dovish as a lot of people have noted. He did probably deliberately keep the tension about "respecting china's sovereignty" and anchoring US deterrence on the first island chain in there still.
