We often say “you can’t pour from an empty cup” but forget to talk about the flip side: All that is possible when your cup is full.

When educators have the capacity to tend to their own wellbeing, everyone benefits from that abundance. We are all connected.

Leaders: If you want to foster a positive, supportive culture for your team, you can’t forget that it starts with you. When you prioritize your well-being, you give others *true* permission to do the same.

Happy Monday, #edusky!

Leaders: The best way to get better is to fumble the ball from time to time. Make mistakes, learn from them, get stronger, rinse & repeat.

The best thing you can do for your team is lean into the discomfort of messing up and model what it's like to grow from it.

A culture of belonging is essential for leaders to include different stakeholders in conversations about what is happening (and what should happen) in their schools.

Leaders: What are you doing to foster a sense of belonging so new perspectives are welcome?

Take space and time for you. Your well-being isn't just an important thing, it's the MOST important thing. 💛
We just want to remind you: You’re not alone. We’re all in this together, and we’ll get through it together. We’ve seen so many people sharing their feelings of anxiety and stress—please take a moment for yourself. Your well-being matters. Sending you hugs—you are amazing, and we love you all! 💚

Food for thought: Punctuation is important when you speak, too! Something to keep in mind as you're communicating with colleagues, families and students this year. ⬇️💛

Sending love to all the educators on here who are doing their best every day to hold it down for their communities. Don't forget to breathe. 💛
Preparing a brief for my team on policy shifts impacting K-12... to name 3 of MANY:

- Attendance drops due to fears of ICE raids
- Threats to educators supporting nonbinary students
- Probable elimination of federal $ and all equity-driven initiatives

All within a system that was already hurting.

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.” Katie Reed.

There’s a lot happening in the world, and it’s easy to feel the burden. Be gentle with yourself. Allow space for your own well-being. It isn’t selfish. It’s necessary. 🧡

Educators:

With the high demands of our roles not diminishing anytime soon, what is one thing you want to strengthen or improve after the break?

Specifically something that is in your control.

Moving into school leadership, at first I really missed that day to day positive, visible impact on kids.

Now, I realize the job is to have that same impact on the adults, so that THEY can go positively impact kids.

Amidst so much change/uncertainty, it's so important to actively LISTEN to the people around you.

Right now, people will be most comforted by feeling seen, heard and UNDERSTOOD.

Active listening is 🔑 to building trust + mutual support in challenging times.

A group of people does not automatically = a thriving team. A strong team is characterized by:

➡️ shared values
➡️ mutual respect
➡️ belief in one another
➡️ authentic connections
➡️ trust ❗️❗️❗️

Good Morning

Getting the topic for #Bfc530 out early this morning.

What does “team” look like at your school/work place?

Is it really a “team” or is it a group of people who are grouped together?

What makes a “team” a TEAM?

This chat rolls all day long. Feel free to drop in any time.
