So we have made it to the end of January 1986, the first month in the Indiepop Chronicles.
Given I started in July I may need to up the pace a little bit.

How are you all finding it? Any requests, suggestions?

I am all ears...

It's the indie charts. Cocteaus still occupying the top two spots, and Pig Bros still hanging in there (up two places no less!).

Any favourites amongst this lot?

Ron Rom underwhelmed by @thejunebrides.bsky.social at the Sir George Robey (later The Powerhaus). "The bite...which should have made them the direct heirs to the Buzzcock tradition of pop, hasn't emerged."

A tremendous insight into the Indie Top 20 story here thanks to @23daves.bsky.social
They do, yes - they were just rebadged. I actually did a whole blog about these years ago and Chet Selwood, who set up the series with his sister Bee, got in touch and gave me a bunch of information:

Today, the postie‘s delivered new albums by The Man From Delmonte and Bobby Wratten. Yesterday, I bought a ticket for a festival where Heavenly and Even As We Speak will be playing. You wouldn’t think 1989 is 36 years ago now, would you?

It's "hairdressing poets" @wearejames.bsky.social after signing for Sire, and "music fan" Seymour Stein, after not trusting an album of "the stuff the musical breaks on Pebble Mill are made of" to Factory.

Wow!! Doesn’t time fly?!

It’s soon to be the 18-year anniversary of the first time that we ever played with our pals, the Felt Tips.

The year was 2007 and indiepop was all the rage.

Just the one 1987 album, the Ian Broudie produced 'Played', and a handful of singles either side, but I still think of them as one of the key indie-jangle bands of the time.
