I hope you've all had a nice Sunday. This last track was suggested by my friend @luetgewatz.bsky.social a couple of weeks ago and it took me a while to track it down! It's great - The Red Balloon by Crockett and Jones. Not the shoemaker.

Thanks for listening x x x

I watched @dreamcoasterband.bsky.social play a super show in Brighton on Friday. This track was the highlight. From their recent LP Imaginary Reflections, this is 'Dancing To Your Favourite Song'.

A nice acoustic take on Ballboy's 'Sex Is Boring' follows, from 2001.

"Take me back to your room
Tie me up and strip me naked
And lie me on your floor
And then you'll see that sex is boring with me"

Great song!

If you blinked you might have missed it, but Love, Burns uploaded a mini-LP on Friday. It was available for a day & accordingly they've made it private now. A shame as it's lovely. Currently playing a track, Northern Line, which oviously I can't link to!

But this show will be up on Mixcloud tomoz.

Next up, this lovely track by Victoria is a long-standing favourite. Somewhere in the sweet spot between The Go Betweens and The Auteurs.

Which is a very sweet spot indeed (though arguably that's The Servants, thinking about it)

This is a really great new track by @genevadrive3.bsky.social

Such a perfectly judged piece; those keyboard sounds! That loping beat. Perfect perfect.

I'd be pretty happy if someone ever said that Assistant sound a bit like an English version on Lewberg. It has crossed my mind, occasionally.

That light, dubby beauty is from the new @slowcountry.bsky.social mini-LP, which is lovely as ever. Here's what I said about their previous LP in my fanzine, In The April Sun.

The flood of releases from Hurry Up, Gregory has, alas, come to an end with the most recent & final release on Bandcamp. Not sure what that means for other things on the Back To Somerset "label". I am deeply appreciative of what they've shared. This, currently playing on my radio show, is a beauty.

Quite a fews songs this week that could pass for Belle & Sebastian through a thick wall. I love the new LP by Queen Midas, from which this is drawn. It seems oddly below the radar on Bandcamp - can I humbly recommend it?

Currently playing my own band with no apologies! When I played Anne-Sophie this song - Sean from The Photocopies' mix of her song Overwhelming - she gasped and said "finally we have a proper upbeat song!"

And we do! Thanks @thephotocopies.bsky.social!

A song by Beat Happening now!

"Coral breathing tiger
Seaweed in a spiral
Starfish titled spider"

How do you mix deep vocals like this, team? Calvin always sounds so good.

Currenty playing the fantastic new single by @would-be-goods.bsky.social on untidyradio.com. A nymph meets a god in disguise in a garage-band take on a Greek myth. A v v good album by the band is on the way...

That last track - a beauty from The Westfield Mining Disaster - is from their LP, 'Big Ideas From Small Places'. Only a quick listen with prompt the immediate question: er, why weren't this lot huge? From 2010.

Fun fact: original Assistant drummer and fab person Ali Gavan was in an eary version of Electric Soft Parade, two of whom play in Brakes (and tons of other bands).
February 8, 2026 at 7:14 PM
You'll note there's no talking on my show this week. Sorry!

As things stand, I'm not planning to go to End of The Road this year, but I have noted that Brakes are playing & am hoping there'll be more dates announced. If it's a one off, then I guess I probably am going to EOTR this year.

This lovely track is 'Lemonade', by Fell. Fell is Nicolas Burrows, an artist, illustrator and musician living in London, with band members Jon Rulton (Bear Driver, Dream Giant), Dav Shiel (Beth Jeans-Houghton & The Hooves of Destiny) and Matt Giraudeau (Dogtanion). This is just out & so great.

This week's Fresh Ingredients is on air now! And twelve shows in, there is a tiny opening jingle! Will be better by next week.

Opening with Lost by Meat Puppets. I think maybe there aren't that many great bands from Arizona? Anyone else? I like early Alice Cooper, weirdly. He's from there too.
