Very excited to share the NASA/ESA/STScI press release of our team's work on Apep! It's a terrific writeup, complete with a brand new beautiful visualisation of the nebula geometry.

New cups. I remembered to take a picture before glazing them this time! They're in the kiln at the moment, slowly getting to 1260°C

Did you know? Chromosome testing in sports has been done before and was stopped because cisgender people repeatedly learned that their chromosomes didn’t match their assigned sex. — Something the “XX and XY only” crowd seems to have forgotten.

How to make glass in ancient Assyria.

First, you grind your ingredients separately, which can include certain kinds of stone, roasted carnelian-coloured seashells, “white plant”, and salicornia ashes.

Then, “You mix them together” and place them in a cold kiln with four openings

And here is the smaller of the two kilns in the new shop, being stacked for bisque firing. The heat is not as uniform as in the old monsters, but it works

This list of Sumerian words, like a very ancient dictionary, dates to ~2300 BCE from the ancient city of Ebla.

Remarkably, one of the words listed is sha-zu, which means “midwife” (“one who knows the inside”).
