The fact that Apple removed Women’s Day from its calendar app, but left Fools’ Day, is very representative of the current political situation.

Social democracy is not a viable alternative to capitalism. It is a tempting prospect, but ultimately suffers from violent contradictions that cannot be sustained. 🧵

What do you call that mild Saturday evening panic that you get when remembering that tomorrow is Sunday?
That tomorrow is the last day of a two-day weekend, that you it know will be characterised by that usual existential dread ahead of a new Monday in the same meaningless 9to6? Know what I mean?

Wrote a brief post on how looking at history is helping me to make (some) sense of this complicated present and how it inspired my latest work.

“The witch was not only the midwife, the woman who avoided maternity, or the beggar […] She was also […] the woman who exercised her sexuality outside the bonds of marriage and procreation. […] She was also the rebel woman who talked back, argued, swore, and did not cry under torture.”

The Pelicot case is boosting women's organizing, for very good reasons. But why are so few men getting organized when it comes to fighting gendered violence? Why do so few guys get up in arms about rape and femicide?

Institutions tortured women for centuries, accusing them of witchcraft. When belief in magic waned, it was framed as persecution of pagans. A narrative lasting till today. Without honest reckoning with our past, we cannot understand today nor heal for the future.

If you’d asked me just a year ago about the history of the witch hunts, I wouldn’t have had much to say. I didn't realise how it affected gender roles definition in society. And if I didn’t know about it, I wondered, how many like me were unaware of its lasting effects on our misogynistic society?
