This would be why I am such a strident critic of digitization as a substitute for actual archival preservation. My sixteenth century documents are far sturdier and likely to survive another 500 years than the detritus on the internet. And digitization is not democratization.

This! Astonished by how many reasonable people, even environmentalist ones, are mechanically using AI as a toy without questioning its impact as they would with a flight or any other activity that negatively impacts the environment.
If you use generative AI because you can’t be bothered - or don’t know how - to think and write for yourself, this is on you

Just back from #SHAFR2025. As always, left so impressed and energized: on to turning that unwieldy manuscript into one of them volumes at the book exhibit! If only I could have ½ day every week of that magic SHAFR tonic!

And that is why people should be taught since nursery school to defend the integrity of the processes through which documents are preserved and accessed. May this alert all (everywhere!) about the importance of education in what archives/archivists/historians are and do.

Good, insightful blog by @davidevampa.bsky.social on the lessons we can learn about the expansion of Reform UK's success to Scotland from the territorial expansion of Italy's Lega (Nord), a party widely despised in the south transformed to one with a national populist platform and Italy-wide appeal.

This is absolutely terrible for researchers. And a sign of how fragile digital "preservation" is.
With thanks to @lizgloyn.bsky.social for tracking down and sharing the publicly available update and @themedievaldrk.bsky.social for flagging it on BlueSky, confirmation that "non print legal deposit" sources are gone for foreseeable future at the British Library 😐
