Read something surprising today: a nuclear plant in France had to shut down because the river it uses for cooling got too warm from the heatwave. 🥵 I always thought hot weather meant more power output, not less. Never expected warm rivers to stop reactors!

EDF shuts down Golftech nuclear plant due to high river temperature
French utility EDF said it shut down the No. 1 reactor at the Golftech nuclear power plant in southwestern France late on Sunday, ahead of an anticipated rise in the temperature of the Garonne river that supplies the plant's cooling water.

A thoughtful and timely speech by Christine Lagarde on Europe’s shifting global role.
From competitiveness to climate to capital markets — it’s a clear call to rethink how the EU positions itself in an increasingly fragmented world.
Worth reading in full.
The ocean benefits humanity in two vital ways:

💠as one of the most powerful allies in the fight against climate change
💠serves as an important pillar supporting the global economy

🚗 It’s not just about parking — it’s about how car-centric design shapes (and distorts) cities, transport choices, and infrastructure spending.
Ukraine, take note as we rebuild.

U-Turn please.

🚢 Ukraine missed a key Danube port tender — and with it, a chance to anchor trade in Europe.

It’s not just bureaucracy. It’s about how we plan, prioritize, and show up in EU-led infrastructure.

My latest Substack digs in:

Ukraine’s Missed Danube Tender Could Cost More Than You Think
In 2022, emergency dredging of the Bystroe allowed Ukraine to redirect Danube shipping traffic away from Romania’s Sulina Channel.

Don’t you think that’s too much?
