Thankfully, the U.S. is not Russia. People may seem softer, but as a community they gather, resist, and endure. It is some consolation to see that fear is not preventing people from calling out abuse.

Every day, this movie seems more like a real-life documentary than fiction.

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.

Interesting opinion, and I agree with many points raised here—with one big exception. It’s not only Trump who is ill and decadent. He is just one symptom of something deeper and social happening in the U.S. (and in many other places, by the way)

Many countries should be undertaking a comprehensive redefinition of their security strategies and military doctrines in light of the direction in which the international system is heading.

We need to distinguish between the current chaos within the U.S., which is entirely its own responsibility, and the chaos into which the international system is spiralling—provoked by the U.S., but sustained by other countries, especially across the West.

I know it may sound simplistic to blame digital social networks for the state of humanity, but I cannot help thinking that this is precisely the case. And AI will only make things worse

Machado’s donation of her Nobel medal to Trump reveals the picture clearly: Trump must be appeased; Machado seeks power at any cost; she is reduced to a Zelensky-like role without being Trump’s preferred option; and Edmundo González is politically irrelevant.

It is paradoxical: the lesson of U.S. military action in Venezuela—and its broader threats to the region and beyond—is that Chavismo was right, and Latin America must build the strength to confront U.S. imperialism.

What are the U.S. becoming? A politics of fear and hatred, both domestically and internationally—embraced as a conscious democratic choice. How far will this go?

Stephen Miller, who wants the U.S. to steal Greenland and shake down Latin America, says: ”We live in a world … that is governed by force, that is governed by power. These are the iron laws of the world since the beginning of time.”
That‘s a criminal pretending that a civilized world is impossible.

Irrespective of Maduro, Trump made clear his expectation of total and unconditional obedience from Latin America—an overt form of regional colonialism. The solution is neither obedience nor being pushed into China’s arms, but the search for regional alternatives. Regrettably, we remain far from it.

The recent attack on Venezuela signals:
1.Western civilization and the liberal-democratic order are in frank decline
2.Crude power politics are back in their worst
3.Military strength is increasingly perceived as the only viable resource
4.We are entering an era of unconstrained military conflicts

Rather than condemning U.S. aggression, the violation of sovereignty, and the targeting of civilians, Machado and González chose to celebrate this aberration, thereby forfeiting an opportunity to act as national leaders and leaving no doubt about which side of history they have chosen #venezuela
