It didn't even have to be on purpose--maybe you stumbled into a star system while jumping between two familiar areas. Catalogued in a forgotten moment, only to be discovered by people who will literally never know you except by a name and maybe a structure left, a system labelled.

It didn't even have to be on purpose--maybe you stumbled into a star system while jumping between two familiar areas. Catalogued in a forgotten moment, only to be discovered by people who will literally never know you except by a name and maybe a structure left, a system labelled.

But you can also take small creatures from that place as pets, and then they get proper names, which is more than they got before. Exactly the same for planets--you can name any you find and then upload them to the actual canon of NMS forever, and people get to see that, one day, YOU found this.

Because, at the same time, building a home or an outpost is so, so destructive to the local ecosystem and world. But, it wouldn't be special without you, and it wouldn't even be simulated unless you were near it for so long, because... it's in a game, of course.

To me, #nomanssky is about giving meaning to otherwise meaningless things. Given how the story unfolds, we know that all the life and countless stories the game is filled with are ultimately not as important as the 'singular' traveler (you!)--so... I mark places, and build my own little buildings.

It's our individual duty to preserve what stories we can while we remember them. Not anything written, but rather qualia or whatever you'd call the simple tale of *knowing someone*
