I drew the entire painting with in digital impasto style which means it looks like I painted on the color with thick paint and we can see each individual paint stroke. Jungkook is posing against a white wall but you can see the vertical paintstrokes there as well as a tiny hint of color shifts of cyan and light pink. His hair is mostly cyan with a darker undercut but I added in a lot more colors so the cyan part also purples, dark blues, some reds and even a little bit of green in it. The darker undercut contains dark blues and reds. This is a rare moment when Jungkook had in both his lip ring and eyebrow piercing, as well as six studs in his ear which I've painted in blues and purples. He has a neutral expression on his face, and his face itself is outlined by a streaky blue outline. His sweater is black as the base color with flowers on it but I added a lot of colors so even the blacks have blues and reds. The big flower on the back of his arm is a fiery red, orange, and yellow. Other smaller flowers cover the sweater so it's a veritable color explosion of mostly blues, reds, greens, cyans, and some oranges. The sweater itself has a magenta outline. When I don’t touch you it’s a mistake in any life, in each place and forever.

Reader, I want to say, Don’t die. Even when silvery fish after fish comes back belly up, and the country plummets into a crepitating crater of hatred, isn’t there still something singing? The truth is: I don't know. But sometimes, I swear I hear it, the wound closing like a rusted-over garage door, and I can still move my living limbs into the world without too much pain, can still marvel at how the dog runs straight toward the pickup trucks break-necking down the road, because she thinks she loves them, because she’s sure, without a doubt, that the loud roaring things will love her back, her soft small self alive with desire to share her goddamn enthusiasm, until I yank the leash back to save her because I want her to survive forever. Don’t die, I say, and we decide to walk for a bit longer, starlings high and fevered above us, winter coming to lay her cold corpse down upon this little plot of earth. Perhaps, we are always hurtling our body towards the thing that will obliterate us, begging for love from the speeding passage of time, and so maybe like the dog obedient at my heels, we can walk together peacefully, at least until the next truck comes.

You do not always know what I am feeling. Last night in the warm spring air while I was blazing my tirade against someone who doesn’t interest me, it was love for you that set me afire, and isn’t it odd? for in rooms full of strangers my most tender feelings writhe and bear the fruit of screaming. Put out your hand, isn’t there an ashtray, suddenly, there? beside the bed? And someone you love enters the room and says wouldn’t you like the eggs a little different today? And when they arrive they are just plain scrambled eggs and the warm weather is holding.
