💠 Mourning angels in the fresco 'Lamentation' by Giotto (1305), Scrovegni Chapel, Padua.

The famous Florentine Baptistery doors were likely influenced by the hugely impressive doors of San Ranieri of Pisa Cathedral by Bonanno da Pisa (c. 1180).

🐦 Bird’s-eye view of Siena.

In the heart is Piazza del Campo (“Il Campo”) which is divided into 9 scallop shell-shaped sections. This is symbolic of the rule of ‘The Nine’: Siena was led by a "Council of Nine" known at the time as “Il Buon Governo”.

⚒️ Ever heard of ‘graffito’? It’s an old technique where the design of a mosaic is traced on white marble slabs using a chisel & a drill and then filled in with black stucco.

☕ Leonardo had a historic connection with Milan where he was in the service of Ludovico Sforza, as an engineer, architect, sculptor & painter for 20 yrs.

Photo of cauldron underneath an arch in Milan called the Arch of Peace. The original Leonardo designs of 6 knots no longer exist but were copied in Dürer’s woodcuts, here is one of those as an example. Can be found in the British Museum.
