One of the most enlightening things about this was how boring people like Miller are. They merge two qualities: being unremarkable and lacking a shred of moral dignity. In that way, they are simply the worst person you knew in high school — an archetype as exciting as unflavored shredded wheat.
The last story I did as a freelancer is finally out!

For @slate.com I took a deep dive into the world of Katie Miller as she sheds her image as government attack dog and rebrands herself "trad-wife-in-chief" for her new podcast

I spent a month in her head. I was surprised by what I found.

Donald Trump organized one of the largest moments of political violence in US history, evaded justice, and pardoned all of the perpetrators. So forgive me if I don't think he will be the one to bring an end to political violence in America.

Was listening to an Ezra Klein podcast where a man was asserting that Trump was 100% free speech so this totally aligns with an administration that is doing all it can to uphold constitutional liberties 🫠

As someone who spent the better part of a decade working in Payments, most of that at Google, there's a reason it's the most guarded and watched part of every company. Even a tiny mistake can tie up millions and millions of dollars for weeks. It's all just stupid.

Through comments, I learned about other big myths Americans believe about foreign aid:
1/ it's risen past 1% in recent years, esp. due to Ukraine - false, max is about 0.5% in 2022 $80B
2/ it's used mostly *not* for humanitarian aid - nope
3/ It's mainly about military objectives - nope
