Alberta just got another approved referendum petition!

And this one calls for the practice of funding private schools with public money to be put to an end!

@iandoktor.bsky.social an Alberta teacher's open letter on the eve of their first strike in over 20 years.

While the Smith govt claim this is about wages, compensation is just the tip of the iceberg after a decade of disrespect & political weaponization.

Who deserves the blame in the (soon to happen) Alberta teachers' strike? My thoughts.

Both the ATA and the GoA have both said they cannot agree on wage increases. The history of that goes back more than a decade. In 2012 I was teaching in BC and when we returned to Edmonton I made over $17k

The summer has been pretty lousy for stargazing but the last few days has been exceptionally clear. I finally got a chance to test out a new Hyperstar Lens for my telescope.

Instead of increasing penalties for killing someone, why don't you just make it harder to . . . you know. . . .own a . . . car.

Yeah, that's it. A car. Not like that's a code word for something else.
From 2014 through 2023, Texas recorded 741 road rage incidents involving guns. Someone was shot in 72% of incidents—killing 146 people and wounding more than 430.

Texas is cracking down on road rage shootings with a new law that will increase penalties for road rage shootings.

I'm proof reading my dissertation and something interesting occurred to me.
There is a difference between learning Science and learning about Science. Learning science (content) is valuable but only if we understand and trust how that knowledge was developed.

Yesterday evening I took this photo of noctilucent clouds above the Prince of Wales hotel in Waterton. These clouds are formed by tiny ice crystals at the very edge of space reflecting light from the Sun after it has dropped below the horizon.

You know who else wore masks? Stormtroopers. And they were not the good guys.

Alberta - Happy the federal government is helping severely disabled.

Also Alberta - Clawing back money from the severely disabled because the federal government is giving them money.

Also also Alberta - Wanting to separate because what has the federal government ever done for us?

Everyone should read this.
Who's responsible for the climate crisis?

Two new studies try to answer this question: but whichever way we slice it, the answer doesn't change much.

The wealthiest are disproportionately responsible for the greatest emissions, and that's why climate change is so unfair.
