Republican/Trump logic: "Don't vote for Mamdani, he will destroy New York!"

Also: "If you vote for Mamdani, we will destroy New York!"

@davidebybc.bsky.social Do NOT run a tariff ad without clearing it with the PM or other provinces. Our goal should be to fly below the radar until the economy crashes or Congress either wakes up or goes blue. There's nothing to be gained poking the demented old man. We can't stand on our own yet.

A long time ago, Canada had stakes in its biggest companies - Petro Canada, Air Canada, CN, de Havilland, the Saskatchewan Wheat Board, etc. Provincial governments owned utilities and telecoms.

One question that's been bugging me is who the hell starts a major renovation and construction project in mid-October? I know they'll tent the area at some point, but that's for finishing work. It's a lot tougher working through a cold, wet winter.

Watching all the furor over Trump's white house demolitions reminds me that 24 Sussex needs to be torn down and replaced 20 years ago - but governments have passed on doing what's necessary because they didn't want to be accused of wasting taxpayer money on a mansion.

This is the problem with media today - Noem's TSA video IS political, it's not just airports "saying it's political." This isn't an "alleged" situation. It is very clearly what it is - so call it that way.

Can anyone explain why the market hasn't tanked due to Trump, his tariffs and our declining confidence in the state of the world?

I assume it has something to do with monopolies, stock buybacks, retail investors outnumbered by funds and institutional investors that can afford to hold, etc.

There are a lot of causes for Canada's housing crisis - high immigration, demographics, urbanization and people moving to cities, foreign buyers, money laundering, speculation, zoning, high construction financing costs, shortages of certain trades, the overall high cost of building, etc.
October 8, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Typical Canadian conservative right now: "We want the federal government to invest in pipelines, stop immigration, meet our NATO commitments, protect the north, hire more doctors, build more housing, keep criminals in jail, force addicts into mandatory treatment AND we want to pay lower taxes!"

Just so everybody is clear, Trump and company WANT people to protest ICE. And they will absolutely make sure any protest escalates by provoking protesters or seeding their own agents into the mix to start fires and loot so they can justify a permanent presence of military on the streets.

Every day it becomes more clear that MAGA is just a way for mediocre white men to recover the power they've lost to talented minorities and women. Instead of finding a place in the progressive, modern world, they're instead turning back the clock to a time when they top of the food chain.

This is what I'm talking about. While I hate arguing with conservatives online, we have to challenge their bullshit use of the word "they" - there is no fucking "they" who shot Kirk or Trump. One Groyper acting alone does not equal every democrat and progressive in America. There's no plot here.
September 13, 2025 at 12:13 AM
1) We really need to stop jumping to conclusions about shooters and wait for the facts.

2) The right needs to stop saying "they" when someone attacks a conservative. There's no fucking "they." It wasn't "they" who shot at Trump or Kirk. The left didn't do this or unite somehow to call for this.

If Trump was remotely presidential he'd be giving a speech or sending out a message on Truth calling for people on all sides of the political spectrum to calm down, reminding everyone that they're Americans first and it's okay to agree to disagree. Instead, I fully expect him to make things worse.

We should send a water bomber (obviously when we have one to spare). Not only would that be funny, it would make a point about climate change, and reinforce our longstanding friendship with reasonable states and Americans.

Whatever happened to "LA is rioting, criminals have taken over, we need to send in the National Guard & Marines to restore order!"

At what point will MAGA stop being outraged by all the life-and-death panics and overinflated statements? There has to be a limit where people stop being impressed?

There's lots of support for ditching supply management on Reddit right now, people want cheap cheese more than they want Canadian farmers. However, the bigger issue is food security, and how we feed our people in a crisis of some kind if we rely entirely on food imports.

Heather McPherson's website is up.

If I were to give one piece of advice, it's to refocus on workers. If we're turning towards Europe, let's start off by emulating European vacation days - start with 3 weeks, go up to 4 after 5 years. It's good for the economy.

Are you seriously going to vote against the throne speech? What kind of mandate do you think you have for maybe bringing down (another) government before it even gets started? Canada is under attack so stop playing games. You can lead, follow or get out of the effin way.

Nobody seems to know where Justin Trudeau is right now. Or Melania. Both seemed to disappear off the face of the earth.

Just saying that would be kind of funny.

As a perpetually disappointed Leafs fan, it's been obvious what's wrong with the NHL for a long time - the current salary cap is far too low and takes the fans and fan support out of the equation. It doesn't account for differences in regional cost-of-living (e.g. Van vs. Columbus) or tax systems.
