I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

First day of #earlyvoting in CT today. I'll be out of town on Nov 4, so I got my ballot in now. Early voting was a LONG time coming in this state - grateful we finally made it easier on everyone! 🙏 to all of the poll workers who make this happen. #vote

Love to see this!
Student media rules. They are lapping a lot of the spineless media orgs this year and showing how solidarity is the way.

Griffith was found guilty of failure to disperse and fined $50.

That's unconstitutional -- even the DOJ recognizes journalists' right to cover how law enforcement disperses protesters.

But it also shows what a giant waste of taxpayer funds it is to prosecute journalists for doing their jobs.
Student journalist Lucas Griffith faces trial today for covering a protest against the deportation of Ayman Soliman, who himself fled persecution for his journalism in Egypt.

Lucas did nothing wrong. This is a big deal and would be national news in normal times.
On trial for journalism in Kentucky.
Two months after their arrests while covering a protest, a pair of local reporters face criminal charges.

Absolutely - journalism is public service! It's good to see a younger generation of talent choosing the profession - for all its difficulties.

Absolutely this. "Smoothing out" is the inverse of creativity and of getting a student to realize what is unique and interesting about the voice they already have.
The thing that worries me is the possibility that students en masse internalize the idea that composition instruction is simply smoothing out the “problems” of their voice relative to an idealized normative templated prose proficiency. That “education” is the purposeful annihilation of voice.

Turns out there's at least one! We present you with the seal of the Borough of Stonington, Connecticut.
