64. Heather Ann Thompson (of Blood in the Water) has a great exercise she does w students:

"Imagine someone you love, think abt worst crime possible. If they were the victim, what would you want for offender?"

Ans: horrible stuff.

"Ok, same scenario... but they're the OFFENDER."

Ans: ... oh. hm.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

"CoreCivic's CEO earned more than $7 million last year. Corporate leaders at CoreCivic and GEO Group gushed on recent earnings calls about the 'unprecedented opportunity' they're facing ... CoreCivic didn't report the death of an inmate to city police for six days."
When CoreCivic applied for a permit in Leavenworth, Kansas, to reopen a private prison with a troubled history to hold immigration detainees, city officials balked.

Local residents — including some former prison employees — pushed back.

Now, the city and CoreCivic are in a court battle.
Why This Conservative Town Is Fighting a New Immigration Prison
Leavenworth, Kansas, is nearly synonymous with prisons. But when CoreCivic announced plans to detain immigrants there, residents pushed back.
