This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

One of the best things you can do right now is read books. Buy them. Borrow them from the library. Gift them.

Read history. Read fiction. Read science writing. Read anything that shows you the world is bigger than what fascists say it is.

Read to remember why your resistance matters. 📚💙

I went to the Science Museum yesterday and as well as having a ball with my nearly four year old in their amazing child spaces (god love free London museums) I was utterly charmed by this caption.

Did you know that you should end your alt text with a period?

"End alt text with a period, even if it isn’t a full sentence. The period ensures that the screen reader pauses after reading the alt text."

This was a new tip for me. Glad to learn something new!

Alt Text: What to Write
Images are decorative, functional, or informative. Skip alt text for decorative. Describe the action for functional. Convey the message for informative.

Not sure how but I'd forgotten about #BoxofBroadcast! I loved this in undergrad for finding new documentaries I couldn't find on iPlayer etc!
We hope everyone enjoys our #BoxOfBroadcasts playlist, featuring the three best Christmas films of all time...

Chat GPT may yet have its uses, but, speaking as a historian interested in how young people learn about the past, it utterly terrifies me. It is a bespoke garbage howitzer
Well this is grim

I loved researching this story and how shaped it was by the context of Victorian Manchester and historic Lancashire ❤️

A group of researchers have recreated the clothing of medieval Nubian royalty and clergy from the wall paintings in the cathedral of Faras, which sits at the border of modern Egypt and Sudan.

An example of how (a part of) the underpinnings would look like from ca 1885. What’s missing is corset cover and pettticoat(s) (and stockings)

The structure in back is called bustle or tornure.

Museums are houses of things.

But each object contains the memories and lifetimes of the people who made, used and cared for them—sometimes over generations—and there are moments when we see them resurface in ways we could never anticipate.
